Chapter 2
Five more minutes. Just five long minutes, I stared at the clock, wishing that it would go faster. I looked back at the teacher, who was droning on about ratios.
Stupid clock, hurry up, I begged, glancing back at the clock.
“Riley,” a girl’s voice from beside me said.
“What, Maddie?” I whispered to my best friend.
“You’re going to the football game tonight, right?” She asked me, watching the teacher to make sure he didn’t notice us.
“Of course I am,” I answered. “My boyfriend is on the team.”
“Good. You’re coming to my house after school to get ready. I have a few school spirit clothes for you to wear.”
I had never been into school spirit. I never understood it, and I’m now in 10th grade. I absolutely hated school, even now. But, I knew how important it was. I still didn’t do school spirit, though.
“Got it,” I told her, before she sat up straight again.

Everyone in class stood up, and immediately started talking about anything and everything, but mostly the game. Maddie and I walk out of the class, not wanting to be trampled by the crowd of students. I went to my locker and opened it, putting my books in my bag and taking my bag out. Hands soon covered my eyes.
“Guess who,” the low voice said and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Hm……. Is it my wonderful boyfriend, Jason?” I asked and the hands disappeared.
“How did you guess?” Jason whined, as I turned around to face him.
“It’s easy, Jase. I can tell by your voice. Anyway, I have to get going. I’ll see you at the game,” I told him, gently kissing his cheek before walking away.
“Okay. Bye,” Jason called after me as Maddie and I walked. We walked outside of the school building to her car. I threw my bags in the back seat as she got into the driver’s seat. I walked around the car and got in the passenger side.
“Let’s go,” I said and she started the car. We took off immediately and headed to her house.
The car pulled into the driveway and stopped. I got out and grabbed my bags from the back as she went up to the front door and unlocked it. I followed her inside and up to her room., throwing my bags on the floor. I collapsed on her bed and sighed.
“What do you want to wear? I have a shirt with our team name on it, a sweat shirt…”
I listened as she rattled off what she had.
“Riley? Earth to Riley? Have you gone off to another planet?”
“Huh? What?” I asked, sitting up.
“Have you been listening to a word I’ve been saying?” Maddie asked.
“Yes,” I lied and she rolled her eyes. She threw the sweatshirt at me and I grabbed it, pulling it on over my tank top.
“What if they are out there?” I asked, thinking aloud.
Maddie gave me a strange look. “What?”
“You know, the supernatural. Like, Faeries, vampires, werewolves. That stuff.”
“You’re insane,” Maddie told me.
“Insane? In the brain?” I smirked and she rolled her eyes.
“God, not that again.”
“Yes, that again,” I grinned mischievously at her and she groaned.
“Let’s just go get pizza or something,” Maddie said and this time, I was the one who rolled my eyes.
“We could always eat at the game,” I told her as I stood up. My head immediately felt woozy and black dots danced in my vision. I heard Maddie gasp as I collapsed on the bed, fainting.
