“Felix! Psst!” Opening one eye, Felix saw Ruby towering over him. He groaned. “Ruby, i just fell asleep.” His sister shook her head wildly. “Felix, you have to see this!” Felix sat up. He had never seen his sister so scared. “What is it?” Ruby took his hand and led him down the flights of steps to the basement. In the dark, it was hard to see where they were going considered how big it was. His little sister flung open the basement door and ran inside. At first, he saw nothing. The basement smelled damp and dusty. “Come on, Ruby. Let’s go be-“ And then the lights shined on. There, lying in the center in a pool of blood, was a red haired girl, lying facedown. Felix turned her around and screamed in horror. His older sister stared down at him. A pair of shiny black button eyes replaced her green eyes. Ruby whimpered against him, clutching him hard. “Is that. . .Pearl?” Felix shook his head, horrified. He had seen this before, in his dreams. And now, as he carried Ruby into his room, he could hear a cold voice talking, “Give me the girl, or I’ll hurt the boy.” Felix opened his little brother’s bedroom door. Noah was sleeping soundly, and Felix went back to his own. Who was “me”, and what did they want with his sister?
