Chapter 3
Again not telling you the name of the book.
1. Depression is a side effect of dying. Cancer is also a side effect of dying. Almost everything is, really.
2. " The whole point where a boy who is not unattractive and unintelligent or seemingly in any way unacceptable stares at me and points out incorrect uses of literality and compares me to an actress and asks me to watch a movie at his house. But of course there is always a hamartia(1) and yours is that oh, my God, even though you HAD FREAKING CANCER, you give money to a company in exchange for the chance to acquire YET MORE CANCER. Oh, my God. Let me just assure you that not being able to breathe ? SUCKS. Totally disappointing. TOTALLY !
3. "They don't kill you unless you light them," he said. " And I've never lit one. It's a metaphor, see : You put the killing thing between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing."
4. " And I wondered if hurdlers ever thought, you know, This would go faster if we just got rid of the hurdles."
5. " Thats the thing about pain...It demands to be felt."
6. "Thank you for explaining that my eye cancer isn't going to make me deaf. I feel so fortunate that an intellectual giant like yourself would deign to operate me."
7. I cannot talk about our love story so I will talk about math. I am not a mathematician, but I know this:There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and.12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2 or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. O want more numbers than I am likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for [someone i haven't found yet ] than she/he got. But, [that someone] I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful."
8. "But i will say this:When the scientists of the future show up at my house with robot eyes and they tell me to try them on, I will tell the scientists to screw off, because I do not want to see a world without him [Augustus Waters].
9. Augustus Waters did not die after a lengthy battle with cancer. He died after a lengthy battle with human consciousness, a victim- as you will be- of the universe's need to make and unmake all that is possible.
So ! This book is "The Fault in our Stars" again, by John Green.
(1) A fatal law
