written by Adelina Lovegood-Braith
Riley Carson, a girl in 8th grade, goes to a school in Florida. She has blonde hair and pretty eyes, but she has one problem. Riley was born with no vocal cords, making her unable to speak, making her mute. The only way Riley can talk to people is writing words on a page in her "voice diary", which she writes words in to try to talk to people. Somehow, Riley befriends a girl named Andrea, who was born with selective mutism, which means she is only comfortable talking to certain people. Riley soons does an experiment, and finds out she has selective mutism too when she's able to talk. Maybe Andrea and Riley have more things in common than meets the eye.

Speaking to Max
Chapter 7
Now that Riley could speak, it would be easier to communicate with everyone! "Gosh, Riley! This is excellent! We can finally talk!" Max said, smiling. Riley blushed. "Yea, I feel better now. Maybe I should tell Andrea so she knows?" She said, then curious. "Yea, you guys are kind of twinsies." Max replied, shrugging. Then, Alexia saw the two chatting and rudely butted in. "Geez, what's going on here?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "Alexia, Riley found her voice again, but she also has selective mutism." Max said, frowning at his girlfriend's presence. Alexia pulled out a piece of strawberry 5 Gum and began chewing away. "Interesting, maybe I should tell Andy for her?" She offered, kindly winking at Riley, who wasn't expecting Alexia to be nice. "Sure, Andrea could use it." Max replied, smiling. Alexia nodded and went to Andrea's treehouse and told her.
