CHRM-101 Lesson 2

Chapter 2
Wizards are sorted into 3 categories: Purebloods, Halfbloods, and Muggle-Borns. Purebloods have no trace of Muggle in their blood. Halfbloods have one Muggle and One Wizard parent. Muggle-Borns have parents without a trace of Wizardry. If 2 Purebloods get a child that has no magic, it is called a Squib, a child with no magic powers. A squid can still detect magical objects and can use them too.

Magic is like breathing, we do it without thinking. To pull magic out to cast it, you have to put all your focus into it. Take your wand and hold it out. Imagine your magic flowing out from your hand and into the wand. If this worked, a couple of sparks should pop from the end of your wand.

Magic Incantations must be spoken right with the right pronunciations. If not, you might end up with a wrong spell. You also have to do the proper wand movement. Without these 2 essentials, you will be unable to perform magic. Willpower and focus are the most important things do. Strong willpower is the key to advanced magic. The 1st essential is concentration. You have to concentrate everything to believe what you are going to do.

The Hover Charm is 'Levioso'. It can make objects move up and down upon contact. It is not used much due to the fact you have to touch the object. The wand movement is an inward spiral then a flick, and you need moderate willpower, depending on the weight of the object. No concentration needed.

The Rocket Charm is 'Alarte Ascendare'. It causes the object to move in a vertical spiral for a couple of minutes. People find this useful because you don't have to touch the object to make it work. Wand Movement is a quick swish, and you need High willpower, depending on how high you want it to go. No concentration needed.

The Floating Charm is 'Flute'. It's very useful because unlike the Hover Charm, you don't have to touch it, and unlike the Rocket Charm, it dosesn't go up. The object can only hover a few feet in the air and only move up and down though. The wand movement is a jab then an upwards flick. Your need high to very high willpower, depending on the weight and size of an object. You also need moderate concentration. It should be focused on the object.

The Levitation Charm is 'Wingardium Leviosa'. It's the closest the Wizarding World has come to flying. It was created by Jarleth Hobart. It allows you to lift objects and move them anywhere. Even height doesn't really matter (even though farther an object, harder it is to control). The wand movement is a swish and flick, you need low willpower, it has to be focused on visualizing you making the object float, and moderate concentration focused on keeping the object in the air.
