Week 8 - Using Runes in Spells and Enchantments
Chapter 8
*Runes in Enchantments and Spells
~not a part of everyday magic - much more serious
~making/charging runes is a slow process - don't want to have to do it all the
time or in fight scenarios --> used for long term enchantment
~broken out in times of serious need
~have many limitations
~Similarity to charms: need certain form, then incantation
*Activating/Deactivating Runes
~Activation Charm - Venenate - clockwise circle around rune (set), then jab
towards center of circle/central rune
~Deactivation Charm - Devenenate - counterclockwise circle, then pull back from
center of circle
~Test with Enchantment Revealing Charm after each - to make sure magic is
there and then to make sure it is gone
*Runic Spells
~Kragehul - "I, magician of Asugisalaz, am called Muha, ga-ga-ga"
- interpretation of second part, unconfirmed
- most recent, 2006 - Dr. Mindy MacLeod Dr. Bernard Mees (muggles) "I yell
resoundingly, hail I dedicate in the spear."
- increase power of Muha
~Lindholm Amulet
-spell out intent/design
- string of magical runes, then alu - potentially god invocation
*Runes with Verbal Charms
~typically with charmed objects
~can be anchor for other charms
~only affect surface, area around object
*Runes with Potions
~not as common in day-to-day creations
~carved on cauldrons or phials
-cauldron can be an issue if not every single potion you brew in it needs to
have that property --> need to deactivate/reactivate when appropriate
- phials not as effective - can still have some effect
