Dawn
Chapter 2
Dawn reeled back from the blow, stumbling and clutching her wounded cheek. She almost growled but thought better of it, that practice would only aggravate the alpha of her pack more. "Stay back from the food," the alpha growled and trotted back to the bloody carcass of the deer, tearing through its flesh with razor teeth. Dawn slunk back, waiting as the rest of the pack to finish gorging themselves on the succulent meat of the large red buck that had recently been brought down by the gammas.
As she waited for her turn to feed, Dawn occupied herself by reviewing the hierarchy of the pack of werewolves she had been found by. There was the alpha male and female who were the leaders. The betas enforced their laws and the deltas who were like healers, they never had to suffer the abuse of others like Dawn did. gammas hunted and protected the pack and Epsilons learned to be Gammas and Deltas. There were thetas that cared for the young ones and omegas. Dawn was an omega and since the alpha male clearly hated her very existence, she wasn't going to be anything else, at least not in this pack. For a while, she had dreamed of going back, trying to find where those vague memories of a girl with red hair and freckles just like Dawn's. The only difference being eyes blue like the sky on a cloudless day, like there were two tiny oceans trapped in the girl's eyes.
Looking over as the picked over carcass with only a few low ranking gammas walking away from it, Dawn knew that she could finally eat. She turned into a wolf, which was an awkward and slightly painful process. Now a wolf, Dawn slipped over to the carcass and gnawed what meat was left, off the bones. After eating all that was left, which was hardly filling, she walked to her den. Once inside, Dawn collapsed onto the heap of old ragged blankets that were her bed inside the damp cave and drifted off to a restless sleep. Just before she closed her eyes, Dawn felt the familiar pang as if something was missing, something she had always searched so desperately for after it had been ripped away from her. The problem was...what was it?
