Chapter 1
“Erin, I can’t believe that you’re so stupid! It was obviously a joke.” Cassie was yelling in my face outside the girl’s bathroom. We were surrounded by a crowd of people
“Shut up, Cassie!” I yell, and take a swing at her face. The crowd steps back, and I see a teacher walk into the crowd, parting before her. I was new, but I knew Cassie from back home.
“What do you think you’re doing, ladies?” She stepped between us.
“Professor, Erin was punching me and calling me a little -” Cassie started.
“Ma’am, if I may interrupt, Erin wasn't calling her names, but she did try to hit her.” I see a boy come up out of the crowd, and smile at him gratefully. He shrugs it off.
“Well, Cassie, you have a warning. Erin, you have detention for hitting a student.” She frowns, and leaves, pushing the crowd away. I see Cassie frown, and flip her hair. She walks away with Sarah and Emily.

Later I was walking on the Hogwarts grounds, trying to freeze my tears away. I looked up, and felt snowflakes on my face, and opened my eyes. I see a boy on a broom. I saw him fall. Falling, from so high in the air, and I could do nothing to stop it. After all, I was only a first year. I no advanced magic, and I was thinking that I was helpless. I dropped my books, and ran. I stumbled up a hill. He was about to hit the ground, and my mind went to a spell.
“Wingardium leviosa!” I yelled, trying to make the spell work as quickly as possible. It caught him, and I guided him to the ground.
His eyes fluttered open, and I looked at the boy. He had slytherin robes, and was looking up at me. “What… what happened?” He asked me, and I saw the cuts on his face and neck. He had brown hair, and black eyes.
“You fell from your broom. Are you okay?” I run a finger along the cut on his arm.
“Where is it? Where’s my broom?” He asks me, and looks around wildly. I see his eyes lay on my and he asks, “Why are you out here? In the middle of the grounds, and it’s like 25 degrees outside.”
“Nothing. What’s your name?” He seemed to be going in and out of sleep, but before he fell unconscious, he breathed Sam Kelly. I see him double over in pain, and it seems to come from his ribs. “We need to take you to the hospital. I think your ribs broken.” I try to pull him up, but he’s too heavy for me to carry. I cast the spell again, and carry him like that to Hagrid’s hut.
I bang on the door, and I can see my lips turning blue. I looked over at Sam, and saw that he was still unconscious. “Open up, Hagrid!” I yell, and bang on the door once more. It flies open, and I see Hagrid standing in the doorway.
“Oh, hello Erin! Who’s this?” I looked over at Sam, and I say “He’s Sam Kelly. I saw him fall from his broom, and he was pretty high up. Can you carry him to the hospital?” Hagrid picks im up, and tells me to get a blanket from the hut. I grab a woolen one, and wrap Sam in it.
We walk up to the castle, and I feel the warmth flood my face. I see the nurse, and explain what happened. We nearly run to the hospital, and when we get there, we place him on the bed. The nurse gives him some sort of medicine, and shoos me off to my dorm.
I leave reluctantly, and while I was climbing the stairs, I saw Maggie. Finally, a friend who won’t chase me away. “Hi Maggie!” I exclaim. I run up to meet her, and begin to walk beside her.
“Erin - why are you around here?” She looks at me, and keeps walking quickly up the steps back to the Hufflepuff common room. I try to keep up with her, and I get winded halfway up. I pull my lavender hair up into a ponytail, and when I look up, I feel Filch and his cat at the top of the stairs, stopping us in our tracks.
