Chapter 1
April was rushing around the house, getting dressed (well, trying), brushing her teeth and packing her bag, all at the same time. Yes, she was running late. She was also off to boarding school later that day. Of course April's father was of no help whatsoever. 'Father! You must keep out of the way if you aren't going to help us!' April complained, trying to squeeze through a gap between her father and the sofa. She rushed up the stairs after failing to get through, and rummaged through her wardrobe, searching for her new school uniform. Her uniform consisted of a white shirt, a grey, pleated skirt with black tights, and a black blazer with the school logo sewn on to the breast pocket.
Meanwhile, April's mother was hunting through the kitchen cupboards, trying to remember where she had put April's tuck box, for she had packed it the previous night. 'Oh, now I remember! I put it in the fridge so the fruit slices would stay fresh!' She said to herself. April's tuck box contained apple and pear slices, a small carrot cake (not a cupcake), a range of boiled sweets, and many healthy snacks and cereal bars. April herself had helped to pack it, though you would think that her mother had done it herself with the amount of healthy snacks in the box.
Upstairs, April was trying to calm herself, because she had gotten worked up when she couldn't find her brand new uniform. 'Mother,' she called down to the kitchen, 'have you moved my uniform? I can't seem to find it anywhere!'
April's mother did not hear this however, for she was out in the garden, feeding April's rabbits. At this, April found herself getting rather worked up, as she was very tired and short-tempered after spending hours plotting a timetable the previous night. 'Hmph, well if mother won't help, I shall have to search for it myself.' So she set off, searching the whole house and turning it upside down, much to the annoyance of her parents. Eventually, she found it folded up, already in her trunk, ready for when she had to change at school. Oh yes, she thought to herself, I packed it last night didn't I?
