Ellis woke up. Another day. She went to the kitchen and saw a scrawled note from her dad.
Ellis,
Hi. Sorry to tell you that I’ve gone a business trip. I’d love to have our regular time together, but I can’t. Something has happened. I’ve left some money for you. You have a key to our house. Take the money and buy yourself food if you run out.
She sighed. Grabbing her food, she was about to board the bus for another long day at school, when she had an idea. She could stay home! She wouldn’t have to run into Mika. Her dad wouldn’t ever have to know. Ellis walked back to her bed, and sat down on it with a plop, and ate her food there. Ellis laughed. She thought ‘Now nobody can tell me to go to school or make sure I don’t eat on my bed!’ She opened her blinds and invited the warm and delightful sun to fill her room. She laid on her back, her eyes staring above at the ceiling. Suddenly, she saw something move out of the corner of her eye. She peered out the window, and shook her head. ‘Of course there isn’t anything.’ she thought ‘I’m just being silly.’ But the more she thought about it, the more her mind insisted that she had seen something, of some sort, yet Ellis continued with her day, going about as normal. She sat down on her bed, and allowed herself to daydream about what life would be like without Mika.
