The Origins Of Dragons

A muggle biology perspective of the origins and evolution of the different structures in the dragon family, for those familiarized with biology and genetics you may skip the introduction. Note: I believe the book is pretty much done up to chapter 5, but any suggestions on what another chapter might talk about or relevant issues with the current chapters please let me know.

The Missing Family

Chapter 5

There are many extinct relatives of
the dragons, in ancient Aztec history there are records of flying feathered
snakes, this along with the fossils found in America by wizard geologist Jose
F. Bonaparte, that indicate that some of the dragon species in America lacked
back paws and had an elongated torso such as snakes, similar skull fossils were
found in Asia, however it seems the dragons there had also lost their wings,
perhaps in an attempt to hide from bigger predators.

Despite the many muggle histories about four
legged dragons, there is no fossil record available that provides sufficient
information on these species and many biologists believe that it is highly
unlikely that a dragon could have developed a third pair of limbs, it is
speculated that the arrival of these creatures could have been related to lost
wizard historical records in which transfiguration of a dragon could have occurred,
this could also explain the loss of fossil evidence for the creatures, as they
would have been disappeared by ancient wizards.
