The Origins Of Dragons

A muggle biology perspective of the origins and evolution of the different structures in the dragon family, for those familiarized with biology and genetics you may skip the introduction. Note: I believe the book is pretty much done up to chapter 5, but any suggestions on what another chapter might talk about or relevant issues with the current chapters please let me know.

The Origin Of Fire Breathing

Chapter 3

There is no current fossil record of
the structures that might have ended up being the gas chamber in dragons, but
the origin of this adaptation is well understood, with the change of diet from
fruits and insects to meat and the decay of this in the intestines methane was
created, most mammals eliminate this by flatulencies expelled from the rectum,
however in what in most creatures is the appendix to dragons is the gas
chamber, this thin segment of the intestine fussed with the pharynx possibly in
order for the dragon to eliminate gases directly through his mouth but not
ignited, fossil records and modern dragons show the appearance of a teeth
ironification on the back toot this creating a “flint and steel” which provides
the required ignition for gas to be expelled in the form of fire, this new
developed trait allowed them to cook the meat in order to attract other dragons
or preys, intimidate enemies and possibly played a social role during the
mating season as the dragon who had more food had accumulated more gas in his
chamber and thus could expel fire from his mouth for a longer time than those
who had not eaten letting the females know that he was fitted for survival and
reproduction.
