Taboo or not Taboo? That is the question.
Chapter 4
Periods are usually viewed as a couple of things: gross, bad, and taboo. Let's see what our friends hate about how periods are viewed!
"That they are such a big deal"
"Everything. I hate the "Are you on your period?" comments when I'm in a bad mood. I hate how they don't exist in films, which makes people who don't have them consider them even less of a bother. I hate how most people don't realize that it's a freaking pain to bleed and have extreme cramps every month. I hate that they're considered a taboo subject to talk about with anyone who doesn't have them, because they're natural and all mammals get them and why should anyone be ashamed of it? I hate how pads and tampons are considered luxuries and taxed."
"That men think we are moody and stress out"
"Like something disgusting. That it is still a taboo subject."
"They are human!! People can't turn them off. Why. Are. They. Seen. As. So. Disgusting? They're not! It's for safety purposes that we all have these so our bodies can be healthy. We should be more respectful and understanding."
"That they are an excuse for men to disregard a woman's feeling or problems with his behavior."
To all the guys reading this, you should know that it isn't easy for us. Women are socially compelled to wear makeup to cover any small imperfection, look a certain way, and act a certain way. If we don't, we are labeled 'bitches' and are slowly forced to conform, opinions piling up and squashing what confidence is in us. To make it worse, there are still people that remain ignorant and refuse to learn that the female body works in certain ways, and need certain things. Necessities, not luxuries. We always have to smile, and generally, moodiness is accompinied by one very irritating question: "Are you on your period, or what?"
I haven't been asked that, but some of my friends have been, and needless to say, the inquirer ended up being flicked off quite promptly.
