"From here to there"
Chapter 1
Walking on a railway pathway with my luggage trolley behind me, I looked up and saw a sign and there it was platform 9-3/4. I felt my heart pounding. For the last 11 or so years this was the one thing I had been looking forward to, everything so far had lead to this very moment. It was time to go to Hogwarts. I could see young wizards and witches with their parents and family members hustling excitedly. Parents were making sure their children had everything packed and ready. Little kids who were too young for school could be seen running around at the station chasing chocolate frogs. Everyone were patiently awaiting the Hogwarts express which was exactly 7 minutes late due to weather conditions. Yes it was raining that day and I had almost forgotten that a few hours ago I had woken up to a cold and windy September morning. I was the first to wake up but the last one to get out of bed. I was nervous because the day I had always imagined had finally arrived. The fact that my siblings were more excited than me didn't help calm my nerves either. I have a younger sister Zeynep (I just call her Zey) and a little brother. They both really look up to me so being this older brother persona has always been something that I've had to take responsibility for. You know to set a good example for them. At least that's what my mom's always told me. I am the son of Harry and Ginevra Potter (Rings a bell?) and we are the potter family. So of course being the son of the Legendary Harry Potter comes with its own hurdles but for the most part since my dad is such an important figure he's mostly busy and fortunately for me I haven't had to deal with him that often. And like you predicted something important came up at the ministry this morning and he couldn't even make it to see his son off to Hogwarts.
At this point the rain had gotten a little wild, everyone were either standing under a shade or had their wands out casting an invisible umbrella over their heads. Obviously me not knowing how to do any of that had to resort for a little shed. I took out a bottle of Pumpkin Juice and even though I absolutely hated it, I managed to finish it all by the time the train arrived. I saw the train arrive, it looked majestic and even better than how anyone had ever described it to me. Before I could even digest this magnificent picture, I felt a big hand around my neck and I got dragged and squeezed like a lemon. It was my mom giving me a big farewell hug. "Mom! I-I c-cant breath!" I struggled but she pretended as she couldn't hear me, it felt forever before mom finally let me free. "Mom everyone was watching" I mumbled feeling embarrassed and annoyed "Oh relax look around nobody's watching" she said as I looked around seeing nobody near us. This felt odd for a second before I realized everyone had already rushed over to the train and since the train was already behind schedule it was running late. "AL! THE TRAIN! ITS ABOUT TO LEAVE!!" my little sister Zey exclaimed. "Mom how many times I've told you not to hug me like this in public! its embarrassing!" I said hurryingly grabbing my luggage "ok ok fine! now hurry up or you'll miss the train!" she replied to me instantly as I said my final goodbyes to everyone and made a run for it. I fortunately made it in just in time, entering the train just as it was about to move. I sat there leaning against the entrance door panting and catching my breath before getting up and looking out seeing my mom, my siblings, other people and then the station fading away behind me.
After putting my luggage I was looking for a place to sit but it seemed being the last one to enter didn't favor my odds since most places were full. I started walking through the lobby, There were all kinds of students from 1st years to 7th year students, all chatting and laughing about in their cabins. Their wet footprints everywhere, their shoes soaked through from water from the rain. The air felt ice cold and smelled like the sort of smell you get from the pages of a fresh book. I didn't know why it smelled like that but there was no doubt about it. Eventually I stumbled across an empty cabin or at least I thought it was empty before realizing there was already someone's stuff in there. I decided it was better not to interrupt whoever was settled here and turned around to leave when something hit me right on the head and made me fall flat on my back. I rubbed my head trying to ease the pain and looked to my side to find a big fat book with the title 'Hogwarts: Pocket Dictionary'. I realized that I had just gotten hit in the head with a dictionary. Well that must explain why it smelled like a new book in here I told myself as I got up and saw a big face glaring right at me "What in the world! are you doing in my cabin!" she interrogated immediately "Uhm I was just looking for a place t-"
"OH so you were looking for a place to steal stuff! huh!" she interrupted me "wh-AT! no!" I immediately defended myself. "Oh really then what were your motives huh??" she fired back at me. "Look I was just looking for a place to sit and I saw your cabin and thought it was empty" I explained feeling frustrated. "OHHH why didn't you say that before come on in" she invited me but I was no longer interested. "No thanks I'll look for some where else to sit" I stated myself and started walking away but got my arm pulled back as she grabbed me "Wait I-I Uh don't think there's room in any other cabin you can sit with me" she said grabbing my arm and slowly pulling me to her cabin. "Don't worry I'll manage" I said freeing my arm out of her hands and giving her the cold shoulder as I walked away. I didn't want to ruin my mood because of that one girl so I optimistically looked around looking for another place to sit but it didn't take long before I was starting to give up. Suddenly anxiety grabbed me. The thought of me going back and requesting THAT girl to let me sit with her was making my skin crawl. At this point I would rather sit on the roof of the train than go back.
When all hope was lost I finally found an almost empty cabin. There was just one girl sitting alone reading a wizarding magazine. I constantly circled around her cabin planning how I would ask her to let me share her cabin and me being a hopeless introvert didn't help this. I was finally about to walk in when the girl suddenly walked out and looked directly at me "You look lost" she smiled at me "Oh uh I was just.." Suddenly I couldn't form a sentence as she giggled. "You wanna join me?" she asked and I nodded. I walked in and sat across her as she dipped her head in her magazine. I didn’t dare to talk to her, she had light brown hairs and dark brown eyes, but I preferred silence. Meanwhile she was reading I was looking outside and enjoying the sound of rain. Even though non of us talked, we shared a comfortable silence though it didn't last forever. I was still looking out noticing the mountains getting taller and taller. The unfamiliar wilderness covered in rain, the way time crawled along as I starting feeling hungry and cold while I was sharing a compartment with a cute girl, all of which made me insecure. Maybe it was just like how it was this morning, that I was nervous. Was I nervous because I was going to Hogwarts or Perhaps the reasons were different but it did seemed as if I was nervous. Maybe it wasn't the nerves but the fact that I had received my Hogwarts letter a month before my birthday which meant I wasn't even 11. My birthday was still 15 days away and yet here I was a 10 year old sitting in a train going to Hogwarts. Perhaps this was what was bothering me all along. This guilt that 'was all this just a mistake'. Am I even suppose to be here?
I can not forget the day the letter arrived so suddenly. My dad most immediately contacted the school to confirm and even though this was unusually exceptional I was certainly meant to receive the letter or at least that's what they told me. This constant guilt of imposter syndrome was filling me up as I started feeling helpless. I didn't want to say anything but at the same time I felt the necessity to fill this growing silence. Slowly each and every minute started to drag. Non of us said anything until the trolley lady walked in asking if we wanted any treats. At this point I was practically dying of hunger. Having skipped breakfast and only drank a bottle of pumpkin juice that I didn't even fancy at all. Despite all this I failed to say anything. "Two cauldron cakes please" the girl finally spoke. She took one and offered me the other which I tried to politely decline but she forced me to have it. Being the first so called meal of the day I was relived not only to have eaten something but as a result this sparked a conversation. We talked about our favorite kinds of sweets, then she started showing me pictures from the magazine she was reading. After a while of chatting, the compartment fell silent again but this time the comfort had returned. Soon after I fell asleep during the journey and later woke up to the sound of Hagrid's voice “Er right! Come her…1st yers…”
When I woke up I saw the girl changed in her robes as she said "Wake up sleepy head we're here”. I got up rubbing my eyes "Must've slept the whole way" I laughed nervously "Hurry up and change" she said grabbing her things "It was nice meeting you" I said just before she was about to leave as she halted, blushing at me "It was nice meeting you too" At that moment I realized non of us had asked each other our names but it was too late now she was already gone..
