Chapter 19
"It's okay, Jude. Mommy will come visit us. I promise." A newly familiar voice said reassuringly to him. "Don't cry, my boy."
"Mommy."
"That's right, Jude. Mommy will be around soon."
"…ude?"
"…orter?"
"Jude!"
The blue eyed boy in questioned snapped his unfocused eyes open, jolting in his seat. He cleared his tight throat, gazing around the room at the other occupants. Headmaster Flitwick, Hagrid, Professor Alexander, Professor Harmon, and Neville stared back at him. Some with suspicion, concern, and impatience.
After Jude, Emma, and James came back from the forest, Hagrid had found them after one Emma's dorm mates found her bed empty. He had taken them to his hut and ran out to the woods where he found blood and the dead body of Miles. He called the Headmaster and Neville who took the kids to the headmaster's office to be questioned. James and Emma had already gone through it, now it was Jude's turn.
"Jude," Neville began worriedly, coming up and putting his hand on the boy's shoulder. "What happened out there with you, James, and Emma? Hagrid checked it out when you three came back and he found the dead body of Professor Joseph Miles. All we want to know is if you saw Professor Miles when you were out in the woods and why you were out there?"
Jude swallowed dryly, his shaking fingers tightening over the armrests of the chair he sat in. He clenched his jaw before nodding stiffly, "Liam Lazarus, the former Hogwarts student, is after my blood. Professor Lamb died because he wasn't able to obtain my blood; Lazarus killed him. We suspected Professor Miles was working with Lazarus so we followed him out of Hogwarts."
He inhaled shakily as he continued, "A death eater found us first when we were tracking him. Emma chose to stay back to fight him while James and I went ahead. James was stopped by a death eater as well and he made me go forward. As I ran, Professor Miles found me and told me he had found the lightning stone and he had used it during the quidditch matches."
"Damn it," Professor Harmon cursed the man for ruining one of the best games in the Wizarding world.
"James and Emma caught up to me and decided to fight him while I went to go find Lazarus," Jude said, gazing down at his hands in his lap. "I found Lazarus not long after. He had the lightning stone and told me he was going to kill me to get my blood. He shot some lightning at me but I-I…"
He trailed off. He didn't think he should mention the fire. If he did, they would no doubt ask how the fire was helping him all the time and if he was the one who could control it. He knew about as much as them. All he knew was that when he was angry, fire came out. And when he was in trouble, a man in the form of fire saved him.
"I dodged," He fibbed, clenching his fists. "He kept shooting at me but I was able to find James and Emma. We ran after that and that's when Hagrid found us."
Flitwick cleared his throat, "So you're telling us that James and Emma were really the last ones to see Professor Miles?"
Jude nodded stiffly, "Yes, but I know they didn't kill them. None of us did. It was probably Lazarus. He was probably mad that the lightning stone didn't kill me."
Professor Alexander sighed heavily, "It's true. We can't blame the kids for this. They were just trying to find answers as to why Lazarus is acting like this. I'd like to know myself." She turned her gaze to Jude, "You said he wanted your blood, correct?"
"Yes," Jude nodded once more. "He always says that and so do the death eaters who work for him. I don't know what it is with my blood but they want it for some reason."
Flitwick waved his hand dismissively, "You may go now, Jude. Your professors and I have much to discuss. Get some sleep, my boy."
Jude put a smile on his heavy lips, getting up from his seat and walking out of the room. Once out, he exhaled the breath he didn't know he was holding in. James and Emma, who had been sitting just outside the headmaster's office, got up and quickly walked towards him.
"What happened?" James asked, glancing back at the headmaster's office in case another professor would come out to tell them something.
"Are you alright?" Emma questioned, gazing at Jude's pale face.
Jude shook his head, rubbing his eyes under his glasses, "I'm fine. They just asked what we were doing in the woods. That's it."
"And?"
The blue eyed boy shrugged, "I don't think they have a clue as to what Lazarus is doing. Everyone just keeps drawing blanks."
"It must be because they don't know anything about you," James inquired before sighing. He patted Jude's shoulder, "Come on, mate. Let's get that sleep you were complaining so much about."
Jude thanked Merlin that they didn't have classes since it was close to the end of the year and they had done all of their final exams. They picked a nice time to go out looking for Lazarus this year. Last year, they still had to cram for exams after the whole incident with Lazarus which Emma did not appreciate.
As they made their way to the dormitory, Jude pondered on who actually knew his whole back story. He certainly didn't know it. All he knew was that Piers found him when he was 2 years old and took him in only to make his life a living hell. None of the professors knew about him or his family. It seemed like no one had ever heard the name Porter except for Lazarus which irked him.
Why did his enemy get to know more about him than he himself?
