The Hibernating River
Chapter 17
As the frozen river noticed
The frogs and mice going to sleep,
He thought-While, I bear the wind slash,
They rest in cozy burrows deep?
His eyes became jealous
And too wanted to sleep away,
And take rest under the ground
Throughout winter's cold day!
So he told his rain pal, mud
His so sad plight!
And requested him to come
To cover and hold him tight
So covered the brown mud
While he slept on the ice
Throughout the cold winter
Alike the frogs and mice
As the spring approached slow
He woke up after much long
And saw people staring in awe
Was something wrong?
As he looked on the ice
He too was struck with awe
As he saw his new form
Black, murky and raw
The mud had frozen strong
To blacken and contaminate
And now he wept and cried
To have wished to hibernate!
