In Her Honor: Remembering Lily Potter 33 Years Later

Chapter 7
As it nears the 31st of October, we mourn 36 years since the passing of one of Britain’s finest young witches, Lily Potter. Lily was born in 1960 to Muggle parents, and started her magical education at Hogwarts in 1971. Sorted into Gryffindor, Lily proved to be one of the brightest students in her class, showing an exceptional talent for potion- brewing.

Upon leaving Hogwarts, Lily became a member of the Order of resistance against Lord Voldemort in the First Wizarding War. During this dark period, her talent for lighting up the atmosphere brighter than any lumos charm continued as she married James Potter and gave birth to her son Harry, who would grow up to become a hero with as much velour as his mother. Almost 36 years ago, Lily Potter died defending her son from Lord Voldemort, giving he life to defend his own. A true Gryffindor, she remained courageous to the last in the face of mortal peril. She could not have known that her sacrifice for her son would imbue him with the most powerful magic and inspire him to do the same, fighting the darkness of Voldemort to protect the Magical World but her spirit lived on in his actions.

Lily was one of the many witches and wizards who lost their lives in the War, but Magical Britain would not be the same without the contribution of her and others to the fight against darkness. We remember Lily as a friend, a sister, a mother, and above all, as a kind and loving person who was lost to this world before her time.
