MORE THINGS THAN ARE DREAMT OF-
“Sometimes, only sometimes, when Sherlock is very far away
and absolutely guaranteed not to return for at least three hours,
John sits on the sofa and lets the tea make itself.”
Diandra Smith’s trilogy “More Things than are Dreamt Of” is a love story of infinite measure. The first installment, “You are a Paradigm,” reimagines the muggle television show "Sherlock" through the eyes of an inter-magical friendship. Smith weaves muggle history and fiction into wizarding history and even includes as characters some of the infamous witches and wizards of our time. With a narrative written exclusively from John Watson’s perspective, the reader jumps from point to point in the esteemed doctor’s lifetime - from his present adventures with the consulting detective Sherlock Holmes to his childhood at Hogwarts and to his traumatic time abroad in tapestry of narrative draws the reader into the heart and mind of the reluctant wizard (“Magic is not something that John Watson has, it is something that has John Watson”) as he grapples with his place as both a part of and distinct from both the wizarding and muggle worlds. Watson finds his place alongside the detective and begins to realize precisely how deeply that position is ingrained in his heart.
