Chapter 1
Ah, October! The month in which the muggle world celebrates the wizarding world they know nothing about. Though the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy still stands today, both we and the muggles
celebrate this fabulous holiday. While we may celebrate differently (the muggles with candy and fancy dress and the wizarding world with an equal mixture of mirth and reverence), the issue of Witch Weekly in your hands right now is starting a new turn towards integration of the muggle world into the wizarding realm.
As you’ll notice, our magazine has taken a modern twist from the past format. While former issues were filled with salacious gossip, hordes of home-care, and copious quizzes, the new Witch Weekly seeks to channel some of its history of articles while flying into the future by featuring outstanding witches alongside of notable muggle women. Though we may not fully understand muggles and their affinity for certain activities, we recognize now the growing similarities in our cultures as their technology has advanced to begin to rival what we as witches and wizards have been born to do.
In this issue, we will touch base with Hermione Granger in her new role as the Minister for Magical Being Equality in the recently developed Ministry Equalities Office. We’ve also brought on a fabulous (and fearless) witch for our advice column - none other than Molly Weasley! Check out the end of the magazine for your horoscopes and Quidditch Quiz. And in introducing our regular column “Muggle of the Month,” we’ll be profiling Malala Yousafzai - this year’s winner of one of the top muggle awards known as the Nobel Peace Prize. These articles and more await your eyes, spectacles and Orley’s Outstanding Orating Ocarinas! From all the staff here at WW, enjoy!
