A First Kiss

Chapter 1
September 15th, 1779
Laurens banged on Alexander’s door,

“Alex, I know you’re there, open up. You’re coming with us whether you like it or not!” He shouted, and jiggled the doorknob. Alexander opened the door reluctantly, but his expression brightened slightly when he saw Laurens. “Lafayette, Mulligan and I are going out for a few drinks, and you are coming with us,” Laurens said, smiling. Hamilton rolled his eyes, then sighed, took off his glasses, and stepped outside, locking the door behind him. The two friends made their way down the street to the local pub, where Mulligan and Lafayette were waiting. The 4 sat at the bar, Lafayette on the far left, then Mulligan, then Laurens, and finally, Hamilton. They ordered a round of beers, and talked about everything from politics to turtles, Hamilton contributing less and less. At one point, Lafayette reached over to where Alex was sitting, falling asleep to the conversation, and poured what was left of his glass cold water down the back of his neck. Hamilton sprung up and hit Lafayette’s hand, and they all began to laugh. Hamilton slouched over in his chair grumpily, but Laurens put an arm across his shoulders. Hamilton didn’t say anything, but he seemed to calm slightly at Laurens’ touch. The four joked and laughed, and no-one seemed to notice anything was different until Mulligan noticed Alex leaning with his head on Laurens’ shoulder, their arms still around each other.

“Another round!!!” Mulligan shouted, and Laurens glared at him.

“Shh, Alex is asleep,” he said quietly, not daring to move in case Hamilton’s head fell off his shoulder. Lafayette and Mulligan shared a glance as Laurens turned back to Alex to check that he was still asleep, concern in his eyes. Alex’s head jerked up as he woke up, and Laurens hastily took his arm off his shoulders, blushing furiously.

“I’m so sorry, I’ve been up late writing papers and doing things for Washington and,” Hamilton kept talking, a stream of words flowing constantly from his mouth as Mulligan and Lafayette nudged Laurens, who was growing steadily more red by the second. He took a deep breath, and as Hamilton was in the middle of a sentence, he leaned forwards and pressed his lips to Hamilton’s, who seemed shocked, and blushed. Laurens pulled away, bright red,

“You talk too much,” he said, smiling as Lafayette and Mulligan slapped him on the back. Hamilton blushed almost as hard as Laurens,

“Thank you for stopping me,” he said, and smiled back.
