Chapter 9
Ria fed us dinner (which was delicious steak, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob) and gave us the spare bedroom. We were chilling, talking and having fun joking around. Around nine-ish, we decided to watch a movie. We drew straws and Hunter won. He picked a horror movie, 'Quarantine.' We'd all seen it before, so we joked around while we watched it. Hunter went to go make popcorn, and when he came back we all started being stupid.
"I can beat you in a popcorn catching contest." I challenged Ria. Ria laughed and held a popcorn in her hand. I backed up a few feet and opened my mouth. She shot one and I moved to catch it. It landed on the floor in front of me. Hunter laughed, so I threw the piece of popcorn at him. He threw one of his one at me. I threw one at Ria. Just like that, we were acting like we were drunk and having a popcorn fight. We were laughing so hard my cheeks and stomach hurt.
"Great, now I have to clean this up. You better help me, idiots." Ria giggled. Hunter bent down, grabbed a piece, and flicked it into his mouth.
"Or we could just eat them off the floor." We all laughed.
"Eww! It has Hunter's B.O. on it, don't do that!" I warned Ria, which made her laugh.
"Rude!" Hunter smirked, and pushed me. I dramatically acted like he shoved me. I stepped back gasping multiple times and, unexpectedly, fell onto the couch. I yelped as my knees fell out from under me, causing Hunter and Ria to collapse in laughter. I laughed so hard, I fell off the couch.
When the movie was done, we cleaned up, giggles scattered everywhere. Ria bid us goodnight and went to her bedroom, the door shutting quietly behind her. I slipped my shoes off and dressed in the bathroom in the pjs Ria lent me. When I came back to the guest room, Hunter was lying in bed, the light off. The moon shone in the one window, illuminating the room slightly. I climbed under the blanket on my bed.
"Ly?" I heard Hunter speak.
"Yeah, Hunter?" I asked, staring at the ceiling.
"Do you want to know the real reason I brought you over here? To Adria's?"
I turned on my side, toward him. "There's another reason?"
"Yeah." He paused, then exhaled. "Adria is a tough chick. She can take a hit and she is loyal to her friends. She's amazing at stealth, archery, and she can help us. She's already agreed to it." He turned to me, and his face was contorted in nervousness.
"That's fine, I like Ria. Why do you look nervous?" I asked, propping myself up on my elbow.
"Because Ria is pretty much an outcast from the others in this world. She's hated by basically everyone except you, me, and our leader."
The moon illuminated the seriousness on his face.
