A Doll

Chapter 7
Hunter pulled me over to the side of the island thing we were on, and my eyes widened. I yanked my hand out of his and yelled, "Whoa, whoa, hold up dude! What are you doing?" Hunter turned around, and it was then I got a good look at him. He had on a camo sleeveless shirt, beige capris and thick brown boots with one untied. His blonde hair fell across his confused chocolate eyes. When he realized what he did, his pale skin went red.

"I'm sorry, you don't know how we travel here. Um.. it's really hard to explain without sounding crazy, so.." He held his hand out to me. "Take my hand and trust me. Please Lyra."

I stared into his eyes, thinking about all he's done and the prophecy. What if it wasn't real and I was just dreaming? He seemed trusting and genuine. Cautiously, I took his hand. He glanced down, then back up at me, a slight smile on his face. He gripped it tighter, and turned around. "Get ready." He chuckled. I didn't have to chance to respond, as he suddenly jumped forward, yanking me with him. I screamed as we flew across the strange chasm-sky-like thing. The islands zoomed past us as the island we were apparently aiming for got closer. Our feet touched the ground, and the sudden stop from motion caused me to fall on my face, bringing Hunter with me, as he and I were still connected by our hands. He landed on top of me, and this forced the air out of my lungs.

"Oh my god, are you all right?" Hunter asked nervously. He quickly got off of me and slid his hands into my armpits, pulling me up as I gasped for breath. I nodded and threw him a thumbs up. Hunter still looked nervous at what he did, so he waited until I caught my breath to grab my hand and do the same process again. This time I braced myself and only stumbled.

"How much longer do we have to do this?" I whined. This jumping was apparently taking a toll on me. My heart was pounding and my whole body was sore, and it wasn't from Hunter landing on me. Hunter looked over at me, seemed to realize something, and looked at me.

"We only have to do it one more time, okay?" he said. I nodded, and we jumped to another island, this time it held a house. It looked to be like a house with a store on the first floor. The store wasn't the best looking. Bricks covered the outside, with no windows from what I could see, and two glass doors. The second floor, though, was absolutely stunning. The siding was a gleaming white, with windows that were curved on the top and flat on the bottom. A balcony was above the glass doors. It had S-shaped columns, and was a fairly small balcony. I let out a small, almost inaudible gasp. Hunter looked down at me, and half-smiled. He gently grabbed my hand and led me to the glass doors.

Inside was fairly small. Split in the middle by a single shelf, it held old items that the family who previously owned them didn't want anymore. It was a consignment shop. On one side of the shelf was for girls and the other for guys. It was beautiful. I absolutely loved it. I let go of his hands and started looking. He laughed, and called out to someone, but I couldn't hear him; I was too busy looking at everything. It held stuff in perfect shape! There was a little doll that looked like one I had when I was younger. It had brown-ish skin, a purple dress, black feet for shoes, and red yarn hair. I grabbed it, and gasped. It even had the same feel to it. I tilted my head slightly, staring at it. I remembered something I did when I was younger, and it occurred to me to check. I turned the doll around in my hand, and gasped. Written in permanent marker on the back was writing; Lyra's Doll, please return if lost!

Angie's writing. Could this be my lost and favorite doll?

"Lyra?"

I jumped about a foot high, the doll flying from my grasp. I whirled around to see Hunter. He started laughing when he saw my face. I mock-glared at him. "Rude." He laughed harder.

"Am I interrupting something?" A kind, soft voice spoke. Hunter's giggles ceased, although he kept at it every now and again, and we both turned and looked. A girl, about Hunter and my age, stared at us.
