Where am I?
Chapter 5
It felt as if I was being stretched out like a rubber band. My vision started going blurry, and my scream sounded to me like it was glitching. My vision went a bright white, and I slammed down into something hard. I shrieked in pain and shock as spots danced around my vision. I held my bad eye groaning, and looked up. The same boy was standing there, the strange portal closing behind him. My eyes widened. I got up quickly and shoved him out of the way. He yelped as he stumbled over his feet. I ran toward the fast closing portal, wanting to get back. Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough and the portal closed right as I reached it.
"No no no no no no! Come back.. portal.. thing! I need to get home!" I cried out in desperation as I walked around the area where it had been, feeling around the area frantically. I heard a soft chuckle behind me, and I whirled around. The boy was standing there, rubbing the back of his neck while looking at me, his head down slightly. I stomped over toward him glaring and shook my finger at him accusingly. "Who are you and why am I here? Where even is here? Why am I here? And where did the portal thing go?" I shot question after question at him, advancing on him as he backed up, his arms in the air with a startled look on his face. He laughed nervously and pushed my finger down.
"Chill out Lyra, just sit down and I'll tell you everything. I warn you though," he warned me as I glared at him. "It will be kind of a long story."
"Well, it's not like I wasn't shoved in here against my will and in a hurry to do whatever it is I'm needed here for." I snarled sarcastically. He half-smiled, his cheeks going red. He sat down, and then I realized I had no clue where I was or what anything looked like. I looked around quickly. We were standing on a.. floating.. grass island? Like in storybooks? The sky around us was a kind of a white-golden, and giant, puffy clouds were floating peacefully around. There were a couple other grass islands, some big, others tiny, and some were just big enough to hold an oak tree. I looked back at the strange boy, and he was sitting down criss-cross. He gestured in front of him for me to sit down. I glared at him skeptically, but took a seat.
"Well.. um.. okay, how do I start?" he was silent for a second, then sighed. "Well, I'm sorry for shoving you into the.. 'portal thing' against your will, first of all." He put air quotations around portal thing. I bit the inside of my lip, but accepted his apology. "Well, since that's out of the way, I'm Hunter. There's no reason for you tell me your name, since I already know. I know it sounds creepy, but I know your name because this has been a prophecy for decades.. and you're supposed to be our savior, Lyra." I inhaled sharply and raised my eyebrows, blinking in shock. I'm their savior? From what? and who's they? 'Hunter' sighed. "Let's start from the beginning. Forgive me if my storytelling is a bit choppy."
