The Bag
Chapter 9
Matilda and Zack were creeping around the lab and saw light pouring out of a room at the end of the hall. The long-haired figure was facing at whoever was in the room. A figure walked out of the room in a lab coat and glasses. "It's William!" Matilda whispered urgently. Matilda started edging away and sent a coin skidding across the tile loudly. Both figures at the end of the hallway turned to them. Matilda grabbed the coin and lobbed it at William. The 1986 coin hit the flask in William's hand and made him drop it, shattering on the floor.
Infected William looked at it and something in his eyes changed at the same time that Zack grabbed Matilda's hand and pulled her around the corner. William turned to the man and gave a slight nod. Together they walked down the hall. William's brain had just started to fight off the spore when they found Zack and Matilda, who had been hiding in the kitchen again. William grabbed a knife and walked towards them and suddenly turned and jabbed the knife into the man. The man collapsed to the ground.
"We need to get out of here, but we're in lockdown and the only key out is in a computerized safe. I know the code," he hesitated before saying. "It's surrounded by all the infected people." Matilda and Zack gasped at the same time. "I know, I know."
"Can we bust the door open?" Zack asked. Matilda glared at the idea.
"Why don't we use the teleport?" Matilda asked sarcastically.
"Ummm . . . About that. W-we actually started building that." William said. "But we need the thing in the safe to work it."
"What made you think that was a good idea?!!" Matilda yelled and in a second Zack had his mouth to her mouth.
"I'll distract them and you guys get the safe." William proposed.
"No!!" Zack and Matilda agreed in a yell-whisper.
"You two are both royalty. I don't matter." William admitted.
"We throw that 1986 quarter the other way and they chase after it." Matilda proposed.
"Let's try it." Zack agreed.
And that's how they ended up running in the opposite direction of a quarter being pursued by semi-zombies. They made it to the safe and Zack and Matilda covered for William while he opened the safe. He pulled out a small burlap pouch. He ran away with it being followed by the two royal twins. They ran to the front door and made it through without a moment to spare. As soon as all of them made it, it slid close. As they climbed the ladder up they heard hysterical knocking on the door.
