The Snake
Chapter 6
Matilda brought Buttercup to a modest trot as a nearby hover-boarder zoomed past her. She brought her to a complete stop and fed her some apples and hay. "You're a very pretty horse, aren't you?" She complimented the horse. After the rest they had approximately thirty minutes until they would reach New Paris. She brought Buttercup to a gallop. As they were half way there, Matilda heard some rustling in the wheat fields to the left of the road. She pulled Buttercup to a stop and and coaxed her off the road.
She pulled back the first layer of wheat and screamed as a snake struck at her. She dove to the side just as the snake left the ground. She put her mud-covered boot onto the snakes back, cornering it and preventing it from biting anyone. She observed the snakes markings and determined it was an Egyptian Cobra. Egyptian Cobras are only found in the northern part of Africa in Egypt. Their bites were highly poisonous. A bite victim would die within eight seconds, so it was very important that Matilda didn't let the Cobra bite her. She cautiously pulled a stick off of the ground and propped open the snake's mouth and de-venomed it. She let all the venom drip into a small glass test tube. She then placed this test tube into a special box on Buttercup. "William might need this." She thought aloud. She had just got another reason to go to New Paris.
Twenty minutes later she arrived in town with her brown hair straight out behind her. "The lab is under the Eiffel Tower so that would be . . . this way!" She decided picking a direction. She arrived at the Eiffel Laboratory entrance and saw Zack skipping out of a building with something on his shoulder.
"Matilda?!" Zack called. "What are you doing here?" He asked while walking towards me.
"Looking for you for one. Two, I found this venom from an Egyptian Cobra." Matilda answered while putting her thumb to the scanner. A green light flashed and the hatch under the park bench opened up and Matilda climbed down into darkness. Zack looked at her questionably and then followed her into the dimly lit tube down to the room. Matilda opened the door to the main corridor and was greeted by mad laughter and pitch blackness.
