The Beaker's Fluid
Chapter 5
William (Bill) Richards pulled out an eye-dropper and let a single drop of mercury fall into the concoction. It turned green and began to bubble up. William smiled and pushed up his protective googles. He had worked tirelessly working on this formula. He had been specially hired by Royal Queen Elizabeth the XIC to create an antidote for the chemical weapon being decided by the German-American Union. The weapon first drove the catcher out of their mind, then the victim entered Phase Two in which they foam at the mouth and try to murder everything they see. Phase Three was only entered after a month. In this phase the victim's mind somehow found it's way to the tallest nearest place and then they throw themselves off.
The European Alliance had to work against this and the Martian invasion. The safest cities in the world was Tokyo, but the second and third were Paris and London. He poured the fluid into another jar that was on a lighter which bubbled the liquid up through a tube which ran through a freezer which turned it back into a liquid which ran into another flask. William grinned and his pupils lit up with a yellow light and he straightened up.
He shook it off and reached for the flask. He left the L.A.B. and went into the main corridor, surprised to find it empty. He looked left and saw everything as normal, but when he looked to the left, the lights were flickering, there were snarls and growls. Bill slammed his hand onto the red lockdown button. A screen popped up next to the button. He selected the desired area and an iron bar fence slammed down on the spot where the light was located it.
Bill slowly edged towards the light nervously. He saw a figure standing at the edge of the hall with foam dripping from it's mouth. It's head was tilted, it's black hair matted and grimy. It looked up and started staring into Bill's eyes. It fell to the ground and started convulsing. Then it got back to it's feet except instead on four this time. It started crawling towards William with mad strength. The figure pressed it's face against the bars. It's eyes were bloodshot, it's teeth were sharp, it's nails were more like claws, it's expression insane. It looked at where William's hand was resting on the button and it scampered away.
William heaved a sigh of relief then heard some mechanics working and the gate behind him closed. Looking at it curiously, he heard a noise coming from the scary side. He turned back and saw the figure peeking it's head around the corner with an insane, foamy smile. "What are you smiling at?" William asked it. Suddenly, the iron gate started moving up and the lights went out.
