The Jade Amulet
Chapter 4
Matilda paced the soft, carpet floor of her bedroom. She gave up thinking about Zack and decided to find him. She left her bedroom and walked down the stairs of Buckingham Palace. The butler, Carlyle, confronted Matilda.
"Your Highness. You must return to your room." He said. Matilda complained but Carlyle lifted her by the arms and put her on his shoulders. He walked up to her room and dropped her off. He kneeled down, kissed her on the forehead, turned her around, walked her into her room, and closed the door. Matilda sulked for a minute then tried to leave again. She saw Carlyle standing there. "Your Majesty." He said, impatiently.
"By order of the Crown, I command you to stand aside." Matilda said grudgingly. Carlyle's pupil lit up and he stood to the side. "I'm sorry about that." She apologized. She quickly fled down the stairs, knowing that Carlyle would reboot momentarily and continue to pursue her. She fled out the front door, looking back constantly. She ran around the palace to the stables. She opened the wooden door and was greeted by the stable-boy Samuel. "Samuel, I need a horse."
"Sure," Samuel said optimistically. "Take Buttercup." Matilda thanked him and quickly hopped onto Buttercup, the daisy pony. Samuel unlatched the gate of Buttercup's pen. Buttercup quickly galloped across the grounds towards the gates. As Matilda rushed towards the gates, the motion sensor opened the gate and she galloped away. As she galloped towards Big Ben, she noticed something glimmering in a bush.
She stopped Buttercup with a "Whoa!" She stopped next to the bush. She hopped off of Buttercup and reached her hand in the bush. She closed her fingers around a hard rock. She pulled it out to see a beautiful translucent jade amulet. The thread was made of pure gold. She re-boarded Buttercup and together they left the city of London.
