Chapter 9
Down in the Great Hall this morning, I met two Tom Riddles, both in slytherin. Am I missing something? Or is Riddle just like the wizarding equivalent of Jones?
Anyway, yesterday I wrote an owl back to Claire and asked her about the podcast. This morning, I saw her open it, and she waved me over. She told me that the details weren't really sorted out yet, but that she'd be in contact! This is soo exciting! Also, I got recommended a book by one of the ravenclaws there, called Rhiannon- it's called Blood of Eden, it looks really interesting! I've downloaded a sample onto my kindle.
Anyway, we had our first history of magic lesson today. Professor asked us to fill out an 'introductory assignment' in lessons. It was a bit weird. And pointless. She graded them right in front of us, then gave them back while we were doing other work in the lesson. Then she gave us a really short lecture on the importance of history, let us read the textbook, then told us that we had half an hour to do the homework! I have never felt so scrambled in my life!! But I managed to give a semi-coherent response in about 20 minutes, so I got to leave the lesson early. I went along to one of the clubs ten minutes early, just to see if any were on. Potions club was open, and Professor Wolfe gave me a recipe for a babbling beverage to look at before everyone else joined us. I finished reading the first page and turned it over, and there was another recipe written on the back a polyjuice potion! At the top of the page, in scrawling yellow writing, was written, "To whoever this is given to: keep this potion safe and USE WISELY. You'll thank me later. JLW"
I looked over at the professor. She was too absorbed in her papers to notice me. I quickly turned over to the original page. When it became clear that no one would be attending this club, she began to take me through my first ever potion. But I couldn't get the idea of the polyjuice out of my mind. Who was JLW? And why did he write that cryptic message? What did polyjuice potion even do??
Once the potion was successfully brewed, I brought it back to the dorm and put it on the windowsill by my bed. I don't know what I'll use it for... Anyway, as soon as I was sure no-one was looking, I unfolded my recipe for polyjuice potion. It makes you turn into someone else! It looks really complex- half of the ingredients are things I've never heard of! I need to find this JLW person- I think they're in Hufflepuff! I guess if I go back to Potions next week I might see them there...
I almost didn't go to the STC, but then I felt compelled to go. Inside, Vlad and Mari were having a serious conversation about Renae. She's having trouble sleeping, and Vlad- he really, really cares about her, I can tell. Still, I wouldn't want him as my boyfriend- he's mercurial at best. Then, of course, he started picking a fight with me, until I had enough. Mari told me about another place called the Room of Requirement. There were all sorts of people there, milling around, no colour classification or anything. The atmosphere was drastically different- the room was bright and airy, where STC was dark and gloomy. The people were all much friendlier, and there were a few professors standing by, ready to step in if anything went badly. I will miss Mari, and Renae, and Rin, and even Vlad, I guess. But I think it's for the best. I might pop in sometime, if he's not there. But I think I'll just have to steer clear. Thus the exciting adventures of miscreant Lilliput Evans ends here. I guess life will just go back to normal now. Right?
Later
Just got the quick test back. I wrote that hufflepuff was not a real house! I was on auto-pilot- I saw hufflepuff was an option, and I'm so used to choosing hufflepuff that I did! So I only got an E on that :(
Also, I don't care if my life gets less interesting. The ROR have scones.
