Chapter 7

I woke up to an empty dorm (again) and trundled into the common room, similarly empty. I decided to leave a note on the common room notice board asking people to recommend clubs to me, as I think I'd rather start with loads and narrow it down thab only have a few and regrt joining any.

Breakfast was uneventful, so I left quickly and washed my hair before heading on to Defence Against the Dark Arts with my new professor. Last week we didn't actually learn anything- the only thing I wrote down was the homework, which I know won't have to turn in. The teacher gave us all the option of skipping this class, as we had started the course already. However, I wanted to stay as this information will be important for our final exams. Plus, there are no clubs on Wednesdays- what am I supposed to do?

I crossed out professor Mae on the front of my exercise book and faithfully wrote 'professor Silvers' next to it. It's strange- all of my teachers so far have been Hufflepuffs! It's great!

In our first DADA lesson, we learnt lumos and nox, which took no time at all, seeing as we'd all already learnt it in charms yesterday. But then the teacher taught it to us in a different way to our charms teacher. No offence to her, but I think that I trust professor Quilmane's teaching more. Professor Silvers said we wouldn't be needing a textbook for this class, but I think I'll use the one I brought, just in case. She told us to write notes when we were casting the charm, but truth be told, I just wrote this, and rewrote my observations from charms. I think she's oversimplifying it a bit. She said that 'some monsters' can be repelled by light, but professor Quilmane told us all about gytrashes, which was really interesting. Professor Silver asked me to come to the front of the class to show my 'excellent' performance of of lumos. What she doesn't realise is the only reason I'm so good at it is because I've been using it to write and read under the covers after curfew! Oops. One thing about her I like though- the homework she gave us was way easier than the last one!

I submitted the quiz she gave us almost instantly- it was so easy! Then I headed down to the library to have a look in the textbook and write the essay. I got my charms back by the way- another O! But, as I rummaged around in my cauldron, I found, to my horror, that I'd lost it! And when I got to the library, there were no other copies of it! Luckily, a student had written their notes and stuffed it in the 'D' section. While I was there, a lovely second-year called Erin pointed me in the direction of the greatest book I have ever come across- it was a catalogue of all the best clubs to join! I thanked her and brought both volumes to a quiet table to work on.

Later

Finished essay and gave it in- 150 words is nothing! Got an O and prof said it was a 'great response'! Aw yeah. Now I'm browsing the club catalogue to see if I find anything I like. I've put my name on the lists of a lot of clubs, but I'll drop out of many I expect. Now I'm off to try the other book club available. If not, then... what's Dumbledore's Army?

Later

So the book club was a no-show, quelle surprise. Turns out the location for Dumbledore's Army was a dud- instead of people there were application forms. So I dutifully filled one in and await my owl telling me if I'm in. I hung around in the great hall and overheard about a truth or dare club on tonight- but no-one there either. No-one in the common room... No-one in the dorm... Finally, I gave up and went to the torture chamber. Again. But there was no-one there either! In the end, I got so bored and depressed I read the textbooks! I know! And it was a pretty nice day as well, so I took them outside then practised lumos and nox. Pretty boring evening :(
