Diagon Alley

Chapter 4

The boys were awoken to a rather displeased Mrs. Weasley banging on their door

"Wake up you two! Its 7:45 and if your not out and eating breakfast in five minutes, I'm coming in there!"

Charlie grunted and rolled over, placing a pillow over his head.

"Come on Charlie!" Persuaded Brice.

"Agrumphhh derthalmppp" Grunted Charlie's pillow.

Brice went over to charlie's bed and ripped off the covers, laughing. Charlie stumbled out of bed, and together they made they're way to breakfast. They were greeted by the sweet smell of strawberries in the summertime, and fresh pancakes. As Brice was finishing up his last pancake, Mrs. Weasley commanded their attention.

"Alright then, were running a little late but no matter, I have your lists here. I will get all of your books at Flourish and Blotts, Arthur will look through the 2nd hand shops, and Bill honey, why don't you take Brice and Charlie to Ollivanders. Then we'll all go to Madam Malkin's Robes for all Occasions, after, we will head to the Slug and Jiggers Apothecary and Potage's Cauldron Shop. And yes Charlie, if your father found a good price for a broom at 2nd hand Brooms we may stop by there. Ah yes and Auntie Muriel will be here soon to watch over you." She finished.

They all groaned, and whined, and the twins tried to make a break for it but were caught by Mrs. Weasley.

"Now I want the best behavior from all of you." She said looking right at Fred and George.

Just as she said that and old bat like lady swooped in from the fireplace.

"Well we best be going." Said Mr. Weasley quickly, and they all disappeared through the green flames in the fire place.

"Here's fourteen galleons for their wands Bill, now don't get lost, we'll all meet up at Madam Malkin's." Debreiffed Mrs. Weasley, and they were off.

Bill led them to the south side of Diagon Alley before stopping in front of an old peeling building. They stepped inside, and Bill took a seat on a spindly chair in the corner. The two boys stood at the counter and Charlie nervously rang the bell. At once an old man stepped out mysteriously from the dusty shelves of long narrow boxes.

"Hello." He said in a mystic voice, "How may I help you today?"

"Ehm, two wands please?" Requested Brice nervously.

Mr. Ollivander waved his wand at a tape measure and it duplicated its self so that there were two tape measures. They immediately started measuring their bodies as Mr. Ollivander disappeared behind the shelves again. He came out carrying two identical boxes. He opened them up and placed one in front of each boy. Brice and Charlie both flicked their wands at once there was shower of glod and silver sparks from one wand, and a very quickly spreading fire from the other. Mr. Ollivander let out a cry before putting out the fire. Charlie had a wide grin on his face but Brice did not. Brice's wand had been the one which had set the shop on fire while Charlie's on the other hand showerd him in sparks.

"12 inches, Ash, Unicorn tail hair, reasonably supple." Said Mr. Ollivander as he closed up Charlie's box and handed it to him. "Now," He said moving to Brice, "Lets try this one"

Brice pointed the wand at the bell and it exploded.

"Nope! Nope! Not that one!" Ollivander cried as he repaired the bell in one quick movement.

Six wands later and still no luck until Mr. Ollivander brought out a seventh box. He opened it up and presented it to Brice. Brice waved it around halfheartedly, very discouraged by this point but to his astonishment a giant saber tooth tiger, made up entirely of golden light erupted from his wand. It paced the room, but didn't hurt anybody, it simply rubbed its head against Bill's, leg before returning to Brice's side and disappearing in thick black smoke.

Bill and Charlie cheered and whooped and Mr. Ollivander handed the box to Brice.

"11 1/4 inches, Acacia, Dragon heartstring, quite brittle. That will be 14 Galleons, but I'll give you a discount today. 4 galleons for the lot!" He said happily, "I know you've been through a lot, but we all respect you; us who aren't straight." He winked and then disappeared behind the shelves again. Bill left the 4 galleons on the counter and they made their way to Madam Malkin's.

When they entered the shop Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were already there waiting for them.

"What took so long?" Inquired Mrs. Weasley

"Glowing Saber Tooth Tigers." Answered Bill nonchalantly

The boys grinned at each other and the tape measure started zooming around Charlie. Bill and Brice sat down and within minutes Madam Malkin was ringing them up and they were back on the cobble streets of Diagon Alley. Mrs. Weasley went to get their potion ingredients, and Mr. Weasley left to get their cauldrons and astronomy things. The boys wandered around, and eventually fund themselves out side Eyelops Owl Emporium. They entered the store and were greeted by many hoots and screeches.

"Hey, I bet we can buy an owl for you with all that money you saved us!" Said Charlie excidley, "Plus we have Errol already, and what if you get sorted into another house?"

"Good point." Agreed Bill, "Were all basically destined for Gryffindor, but you may be in another house."

The boys looked around until Brice called them all over. "This one." He said confidently, "Its a Barn Owl, and I think he likes me." He laughed as the owl tickled Brice with it's great feathers.

Brice carefully carried the owl to the front of the store and placed it cautiously on the counter top.

"That will be 10 galleons." Said the witch boredly, "The cage is included, and here is a complementary book on owl care. Have a good day." To Brice the witch didn't seem to care about his day one bit but he kindly responded, "Thank you Miss, you have a good day too."

The boys exited the store chattering excitedly about Brice's new owl.

"What are you going to name him?" Questioned Charlie

"I think you should name him Bill." Answered Bill

They all laughed, but were quickly silenced at the sight of a steaming Mrs. Weasley.

"Where on earth were you three?" Shouted Mrs. Weasley, "Had us worried sick! Almost contacted the lost wizard patrol, we did!"

"Calm down mum, we were just buying Brice an owl, that's all!" explained Bill

At that Mrs. Weasley about lost it. She went off on them about wasting money and having to save for their siblings future and how they shouldn't have been so reckless with their spending.

The boys hung their heads in shame.

"And where on earth did you get the money for an owl?" Continued Mrs. Weasley

"Mr. Ollivander gave us a 10 galleon discount, so we used that money to buy the owl. I'm sorry Mrs. Weasley, we should have consulted you first. Said Brice shamefully.

Mrs. Weasley was clearly still mad but she seemed to have softened up a bit after what Brice had said. She walked them to the 2nd Hand Brooms shop and turned around in the doorway. "After closely considering what you three did, I have come to the conclusion that you guys were just thinking of your new brother Brice, and I think that is very sweet. Now lets get some brooms!" She said excitedly, and the boys faces lit up.

Inside the store were hundreds of stands holding dated broom sticks with tags with the mark down. At the back of the store was Mr. Weasley holding two brooms which appeared to be in fairly good condition. He was talking to a stout old man, but looked up with a relieved smile when they approached.

"So here's the deal," Started Mr. Weasley, "I only get a good bargain if I buy both of these brooms, otherwise its way too expensive---Merlin! Is that an owl? Anyways, Bill doesn't play quidditch but do you Brice? I mean ya know before Azkaban and everything."

"Ya! I used to play chaser on my old toy broom. My dad would play keeper and I would practice throwing miniature quaffles past him." Responded Brice

"Perfect! We'll take them then!" He said turning to the old wizard.

That night at dinner, the dining room was full of excited chatter about the days events. Even Errol, the Weasley's old owl hooted welcomingly to the new barn owl, who hooted back kindly.
