Chapter 2: Tricks, Tips, and Ways to Catch That Snitch!
Chapter 2
Okay. So you know how to play. But knowing how to play won't win you a game. You need to know how to pull off tricks to win. Here are some basic tricks every player or seeker should know.
Wronski Feint
Skill level: 5
Speed towards the ground then pull up rapidly just before hitting the ground. This will confuse the opponent seeker and have them not go for the move at all or smash into the ground. You can also pretend to see the snitch.
Plumpton Pass
Skill level: 4
A seemingly careless swerve that scoops up the snitch into your sleeve. The opposing seeker will think you are showing off.
Graham Swerve
Skill level: 3
Similar to the Wronski Feint, you continually pretend to see the snitch. The opposing seeker will eventually think every time you fake it, so when you do see the snitch, they will think you are pretending to see it.
Starfish
Skill level: 3
You hang on to your broomstick upside down, holding on with one foot and one hand and grab the snitch.
Got it? Good. Now you will learn a few tips I've picked up as I've played quidditch over the years. Here they are!
1. If you are new to the team, and perhaps have some level of talent, always keep your practices private and make sure nobody knows but your fellow teammates you are on the team. That way, the opposing team doesn't know the playing style of your teams seeker.
2. Have a strategy. A strategy is always good to have so that you don't end up improvising at the last second. Discuss things over with your captain so that the other players know to stay out of your way.
3. Change up the way you play. If you change up your plans and positioning on the field, they can't determine your playing style. That can make it harder for them to prepare them for and their seeker.
4. Have a faster broom than the rest. If you have a faster broom, you are more likely to catch the snitch before the opposing teams seeker.
5. Distract the opposing seeker. If the seeker is distracted by something in the crowd or anything and you happen to see the snitch, that much of a hesitation can earn you an advantage. They still have to pull their attention away from the distraction, spot the snitch, and catch up with you.
6. Always keep your practices private. If your practices are open to everyone, a player or scout from the opposing team can observe your playing style and plan accordingly to win the game.
7. Don't doubt yourself. Just a small amount of confidence can make the big difference on how well you play. If you doubt yourself, you won't play as well and possibly lose the game.
8. Always practice, get a good nights rest, and eat a hearty meal before the match. If you practice, the less likely you will be to do bad in the game. If you eat a hearty meal, and get a good nights rest before the match, you will have enough energy and you won't be tired during the match. Keep your senses alert.
Make sure to use those tips. They could be the difference between winning and losing. For the final part of this chapter, I will explain different. ways to catch that snitch!
Almost swallow it.
This is how Harry Potter caught the Golden Snitch in his first game. Don't try unless you are sure that you won't choke.
Scoop it up your sleeve.
This is what a seeker did in a record breaking catch, around 3 seconds. He claimed to do it on purpose but sources never found out. Very tricky way to catch the snitch. Not recommended for the fear of messing up your chances of winning.
Catch it.
Catching it with your hands is the best way to catch the snitch and the easiest. Many seekers do this above all others.
Hand off of your broom with one hand and foot holding on and grab it.
This is especially tricky because you might fall or get hit by another player. Only use as a last resort when trying to catch the snitch.
