The Scent of Love (Teddy Lupin x Reader)
Chapter 1
You stepped into the potions classroom, the faint aroma of a thousand magical ingredients filling your nostrils. Like normal, you were early.
"Hey. Professor Clearwater?" You called out.
Prof. Clearwater popped out from behind her desk. Her curly blonde hair thrown up in a loose bun. "Ah, Y/L/N!" She sighed. The bright light that shone through the windows lit up her youthful face. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Well, I talked to Headmistress McGonagall about my work in Potions class. We both agreed it would be better for me to take class with the Sixth years." You explained, full of pride in yourself.
"Alright, I will be glad to have extra classes with you!"
Just then, a large crowd of Sixth years made into the class room.
"Find a partner and take your seats" Prof. Clearwater called over the class's chatter. "And you too, Y/L/N" She said to you with a tap on your shoulder.
After a few minutes and a fair pushing around, you found an open seat. Sitting next to you was Teddy Lupin, a Sixth year Hufflepuff with an appearance near to perfect. His hair was a bright shade of cyan-blue, rather short on the sides and a tousled mess on top. Teddy's face was smooth and sculpted. And his eyes, a deep chocolaty brown but as bright as stars.
"Okay class" Professor Clearwater began, bringing your focus back to the lesson. "Today we will be making Amortentia. Does anyone know what that is?" She continued.
A Ravenclaw guy near the front of the class raised his hand and began to explain. "Amortentia is the strongest love potion ever made. Of course it doesn't create real love, just complete obsession."
"Great job Calvin, 5 points for Ravenclaw." Said Prof. Clearwater cheerfully. "You will find the instructions on page 126 of your books, please try your best to finish the potion by the end of class." She continued.
You and Teddy spend the rest of the class carefully following instructions and making the perfect potion.
"I think we're done" You said, wiping a bead of sweat off your forehead.
Teddy looked at the potion then nodded. "You are absolutely amazing at Potions!" He exclaimed.
"T-thanks" you stammered, your face turning pink.
When Professor Clearwater finally came around to check the potions, you were still enjoying the fumes that emanated from the Amortentia. The soft scent of rain, grass and sweet, vanilla like smell entered your senses with a jolt of electricity. Even just smelling the Amortentia left you euphoric and giddy.
"Mr. Lupin, Ms. Y/L/N" Said Prof. Clearwater, "This potion... It's incredible!" Her eyes were wide and reflected your potion's perfect, mother-of-pearl sheen.
"Thanks" You and Teddy said in unison. You looked down, afraid you were beginning to blush again.
"It was all her Professor, she's an exceptional potion maker" Teddy claimed.
"No, Teddy's absolutely brilliant. It was all him."
Professor Clearwater smiled and moved on to the next group, and then the next group and the next group. Finally, she made her way to the front of the class.
"Many of the potions today were excellent" The professor started. Her eyes swept across the room, stopping at you and Teddy momentarily. "And some... Not as much." She continued. The class broke into laughter and everyone looked at a Hufflepuff in the back. Her potion was still spewing black clouds of smoke and a foul oder. "5 points to everyone who completed the potion and 20 points to both Ms. Y/L/N and Mr. Lupin for their perfect batch of Amortentia." You smiled, not at all surprised. "Class dismissed."
...
The next few weeks flown by like a blur. You were always working and always stressed. Potions had become your retreat. Not only were you excelling in Potions, it was also the only class you had with Teddy who was constantly supportive. Whenever you weren't in classes or doing homework you were practicing for the upcoming quidditch match and it was finally here.
You sloshed through rain soaked grass on the quidditch field, buzzing with a nervous/excited energy. It was the first match of the year, Hufflepuff vs. Ravenclaw. Both teams stood on the field, waiting to begin the game.
At the sound of Madam Hooch's whistle you were in the air, one with the frigid rain and the tar-black sky. You took your spot next to Amelia Boot and the balls were released. Immediately, the bright red quaffle was hurled past you. You spun around and speed after it, the cold rain stabbing you like pins and needles. In no time, the ball was in your hands and you were shooting towards the goal posts. Not even a second before throwing the quaffle, you stopped. For the first time, you saw the Hufflepuff Keeper. He was tall and muscular looking in his quidditch robes. His bright teal hair darkened and soaked by the rain, but his bright smile was unmistakable. Teddy Lupin.
Your heart leapt and your stomach filled with butterflies at the sight of him, like it had for the past week or so. The time for distraction was over. You sped towards the goal posts once more, throwing the quaffle and making the first goal of the game.
...
Soon, the game was over. You won, 190-30 after the Ravenclaw seeker caught the snitch. You landed on the soft quidditch field grass; the rain had slowed to a steady drizzle. Nearing the changing rooms, you saw Teddy. He was struggling to dry and restyle his hair when you walked up to him. You were proud that you won, but felt bad that Teddy lost.
"Hey Y/N" He said
"Hey Teddy" You replied
"You played absolutely phenomenally today."
You smiled but said nothing. You knew you were good, but nothing near "phenomenal"
"Honestly, I would be surprised if you don't end up playing professionally." He reassured, contagious grin spreading across his face.
"T-thanks" You were blushing so hard you could hardly speak. You threw your arms around Teddy's neck, so thankful for the constant empathy and praise over that last few weeks. Teddy wrapped his hands around you and leaned down a bit so his lips came in contact with yours.
Warm and sweet. That is how you would describe the kiss. Warm and sweet was his touch, his lips, it was the electricity running down your spine. Warm and sweet was the smell of vanilla that hung faintly to him. You rolled onto the tips of your toes and kissed Teddy back. You forgot about the rain, the match, you forgot everything other than you and Teddy and now.
At the sound of a wolf-whistle from one of Teddy's teammates, you broke apart. Teddy's hair was changing colors rapidly and your heart was beating so fast, you were afraid he could hear it. The soft scent of rain, grass and warm, sweet vanilla swirled around you. The kiss left you euphoric and giddy.
Teddy slung his arm over your shoulders and you began to walk back to the castle, the feeling of deja vu creeping up on you.
