Switching Spells
Chapter 19
Switching spells are amongst some of the most advanced magic taught in Transfiguration and are categorized under “transformation” magics. A simple definition of switching spells:
“An application of magic which generates a switch between two items, swapping one for the other. For example, if you wanted to make a snake less lethal, you could, theoretically, switch it’s venom to orange juice”
The theory behind switching spells is very vague as it is complex yet simple to perform. It requires the proximity of the target object and the switching object to be relatively close followed by the swirl of the wand around the item being swapped and then the wand being flourished at the target. If the spell is successful a jet of light will shoot from the wand and the objects will swap places.
Switching spells have found themselves many uses across the years, notably in the acquisition of such objects as acromantula venom. The stunning of an acromantula is by no means a simple feat, let alone the procuring of its venom. However from a safe distance, the fangs can be switched for similar items and the venom procured before they are swapped back. Magical historians and scientists around the world have experimented with the benefits of switching spells and have come to the general consensus that little harm can be caused by them.
