The Effects of Blood & Moonlight upon Transfigurations

Chapter 15
There are many different factors that impact Transfigurative magic when it is being performed but none more so than Blood and Moonlight. Blood and Moonlight, closely affiliated with magical effects and properties, can have substantial effects on certain transfigurative spells. Below is a method for determining the effect that will be held to a certain spell.

· First, consider blood. What sort of blood is it?

o Blood is known to be a foundation of magical strength. In Transfigurations, blood multiplies the strength of the spell, and enhances its effects

o The enhancement of strength and effect is subject to the rarity and freshness of the blood. Examples:

§ If fresh dragon’s blood was to fall on an object being transfigured, the spell would multiply exponentially in power.

§ If dated ghoul blood was to fall on an object being transfigured, the spell would diminish in power substantially.

· Second, consider moonlight. How is it sourced? From what sort of moon?

o The most powerful two are a Full Moon and a New Moon. In particular transfigurations, which have affiliations with the sea or water, such as Piscifors, the effects alter, expand and generate different outcomes. Example:

§ Piscifors under a full moon would affect larger objects with greater success, generating either larger fish or a greater multitude of fish.

o However, if a spell such as Ebublio was used under dated moonlight, or bottled moonlight, then the effects would be substantially weakened. Example:

§ The dated power of the moonlight will have waned and therefore the bubbles would be weak and incapable of fulfilling their magical requirements.

Although these rules do stand true for the majority of the time, there are exceptions. If presented with a scenario that has “Dragon’s Blood (wB)” then you will be expected to know that the Dragon’s Blood has waned and is bottled. For a scenario such as this, if you are expected to understand the power of bottled, waning Dragon’s Blood and its effects on a spell, you must first analyse a few things:

1. Identify the spell you need to be using the blood on.

1. Once you have identified this, you will know the power of the spell and its strong and weak points

2. Second, identify, in the case of Dragon’s Blood, the Dragon it came from.

1. A Dragon such as the Antipodean Opaleye is far weaker than a Norwegian Ridgeback and will have blood that lasts substantially less time.

3. Consider the colour of the blood.

1. If the blood has yellowed, then it is bordering on useless and dangerous; if it has a brown tinge, then it is simply waning in magical energy but is still useful.

Considering these three things, analyse the following situation:

Question One

In 500+ Words, Analyse the effect of Dragon’s Blood ((HH)wB) on Piscifors and how it would inflict upon the outcome of the spell.

Following the above formula, we can identify that, the spell being used is Piscifors and the blood being used is Hungarian Horntail (HH) and it has been bottled and is waning (wB). As no colour has been stated, we can assume that it still retains it’s purity. Pure moonlight will last up to 6 months if properly stored. It is important to note that a capital W would mean the blood has waned completely. It is important know the codes used for the different dragons, and as such they are listed below:

· Antipodean Opaleye (AOp)

· Catalonian Fireball (CaFi)

· Chinese Fireball (ChFi)

· Common Welsh Green (CWG)

· Hebridean Black (HeB)

· Hungarian Horntail (HH)

· Norwegian Ridgeback (NR)

· Peruvian Vipertooth (PVpr)

· Portuguese Long-Snout (PLS)

· Romanian Longhorn (RoLo)

· Swedish Short-Snout (SSS)

· Ukrainian Ironbelly (UkIr)

There are also codes used for Moonlight. Simpler than the codes for Dragon Blood, they follow the same procedure when outlined in a question.

Question Two

In 500+ Words, Analyse the Effects that Moonlight (WG(B)) would have upon Piscifors and how it’s outcome would be afflicted.

First things first, follow the same procedure for dragon’s blood except exchange dragon for the moon phases. So firstly consider which moon phase you need to be analysing:

· Full Moon (FM)

· Waxing Gibous (WG)

· First Quarter (FQ)

· Waxing Crescent (WCr)

· New Moon (NM)

· Waning Crescent (WaCr)

· Third Quarter (TQ)

· Waning Gibous (WaG)

In the above example, the moonlight used is from a Waxing Gibous and it is only Bottled and therefore has not begun waning. The effects would remain constant and the spell power would be intensified.
