CACTURNUS

Chapter 81
The Cacturnus, as its name suggests, is in the family of Cactus plants. It is able to grow in very dry sand, and can uproot itself and move to get a drink of water during certain phases of the moon.

Starting out as a foot long green seed called a Cacta, the Cacturnus has one of the heaviest and largest plant seeds known to Wizard-kind. How much does it weigh you wonder? All of them weigh over a hundred pounds! Try lifting that seed! Not that you'd want to arbitrarily do that. The seed is cloaked in spikes everywhere except its crown. The crown is where the plant sprouts up from, so try and make sure it's on top when you plant the Cacta. If it isn't, the plant will use its crown to dig and spikes to right itself; however, this causes a lot of unnecessary "childhood stress."

When full grown, the Cacturnus is not as large as you might expect from the seed. From one foot of height and a hundred pounds, it has only grown to four feet tall and a hundred and seventy pounds. Herbologists generally agree that most of the weight is expended on energy growing and moving to get water, which is how the plant fails to significantly gain weight as it grows. Every twenty years it can bloom green flowers. The "arms" of the Cacturnus may be used to punch and hammer upon any unprepared being who wanders by. Another attack to watch out for has been nicknamed 'needle spray' because the Cacturnus can shoot its spikes from its body at a rapid rate to perceived threats in the distances. Never attack a Cacturnus with water, as it will absorb the water and use it to make it stronger. Most plants are at least a little resistant to water, but the Cacturnus is one of the few plants which will not take any damage at all, regardless of the amount, speed, or temperature of water.
