CHINESE CHOMPING CABBAGE

Chapter 72
The Chinese Chomping Cabbage is a magical plant, native to China. It is said that it can eat carrots. It is part of cruciferous vegetables, like kale and broccoli, which are notorious for being chocked-full of beneficial nutrients. It can vary in colour from green to reddish purple and its leaves can be smooth or crinkled. Red cabbage contains more nutrients than the green cabbage.

The Chinese Chomping Cabbage is difficult to work with. It does breathe and likes to eat. It is dangerous to collect as you could receive a nasty bite. To collect one, you have to grab it from behind, away from the teeth so it doesn’t bite.If it does bite you, seek immediately help from your local healer. To use the cabbage, cut it in half, lengthwise and remove its teeth. From there on in, you should have no further problems.

Health benefits of the Chinese Chomping Cabbage is a decrease in obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. It promotes increased energy and a healthy complexion. A popular way to consume the Chinese Chomping Cabbage is to remove any teeth that can bite you, then consume it in a fermented form such as sauerkraut or kimchi. It is chocked full of probiotics and is good for your immune and digestive systems. The fiber and water content helps to prevent constipation.

Chinese Chomping Cabbage is contraindicated if you are taking blood thinners, as it is important that you do not suddenly begin to eat more foods containing vitamin K, which plays a role in blood clotting.

Storing properly Chinese Chomping Cabbage is very important because the faster the cabbage breathes, the quicker its cells metabolize then break down and the cabbage will spoil. To preserve its flavor, colour, texture, and nutrients, we need to slow down the metabolic rate.

The Chinese Chomping Cabbage should be chilled to slow its rate of respiration. At 15 C (59 F), both red and green Chinese Chomping Cabbage give off carbon dioxide at a rate faster than 32 milliliters per kilogram per hour. Put the Chinese Chomping Cabbage into a reusable tightly-locking muggle Tupperware-type plastic containers or muggle Pyrex-type containers with rubber or plastic gaskets. They should closely match the size of the head of the cabbage. If you need to store a partial head of cabbage, cover it tightly in plastic wrap and chill. You must use the partial head up within a couple of days. Remember the cooling charm in Year 3, Lesson 7 - Friomente (free-oh-MEN-te), which keeps storage cool.

Chinese Chomping Cabbage is used in the Bone Regenerating Potion. Other ingredients needed for this potion is Dittany and Chamomile Flower Petals.
