The Grove
Chapter 3
It took a good 15 minutes to reach our spot. The land we own is a vast one, to speak honestly. And we’re the only ones in here too. Our home stands on an isolated highland up here with the green meadows of mother Russia, so I never had any neighbors or any friends to play with. Well, not since that... incident.
Oh but what use is it to remember the past? It was long gone and besides, mother said there is little – almost no more danger of its occurring again now that we’re isolated-here in our peaceful jolly home in the highlands.
All the birds were chirping in the trees and oh! How beautifully they sing. I could hear the babbling brook all the way up here and yet a little bit off and there is also a wonderful blue lagoon where we set up camp and have our picnics. Oh how perfect is the sun today! How perfect everything seems-as if the skies had cleared up the way for me on this one very special day.
Mom and Dad allowed me to play over the lake while they were getting things ready for breakfast and it was quite a fun looking at the golden fish that kept swimming towards me. How glad I am! How well does it satisfy one’s feeling to be celebrating another year of her life!
Yes! It’s my birthday! And I just turned ten today. Well, I turned ten about 4 hours earlier, at half past three in the morning to be exact.
“Alexa! Come on here. It’s time for breakfast.”
Just look how lovely everything is! Croissants, eclairs, pancakes, waffles, there’s cream cheese and blueberries as well, the strawberries we’ll still pick up later, some cookies, a jug of milk, a salad-my mother always puts healthy meals even in an occasion like this-and a scrumptiously looking chocolate cake in the middle. What could I ever ask for more?
Everything is so delightful I can feel my temperature rising and a surge of different emotions swirling up inside me. I can feel my eyes changing color. I wonder what color it is now. Why, it’s purple. Well, it’s lilac actually but it is such a pretty color.
As you can see, I’m not really normal. My eyes have been changing color for as long as I can remember, but it never turned lilac until now. I can change my hair color too, and I reckon that isn’t normal either. I’m just different I guess. I’ve always been different from the other kids. But for all I know, I like it.
