Morning in Springfield
Chapter 2
“Alexa. Alexa.”
I felt a hand caressing my face as I heard my name being called. It’s as if the wind were gently singing out the words to me. I blinked my eyes, trying to wake myself up from the dream and shake off that sleepy sensation. I yawned and with a shuffled head, rolled over. It was my mother.
“Good morning Sweetheart.” I felt her lips touch my forehead. “ Come on, get up! It’s your special day, you know!” A beautiful smile and a pair of soulful eyes beamed down at me as my vision became clearer.
“Good morning mother.” I said presently.
She kissed me again on the forehead, and got up. “Go and get ready dear. The breakfast is all set, and we’ll all be going down the grove to have a picnic. And we’ll be picking our strawberries too, we are in jolly good season.”
It was a little hard for me to get over the awe of that dream last night – it awfully seemed too real, but the sole mention of strawberries and breakfast was enough to wake up my soul. I hurriedly got out of my bed and fixed myself up smartly, donning my favorite sun-gold summer dress and putting my hair up in the traditional braid with a white ribbon.
Oh I am much, much excited! It’s June you see, the first month of summer and the berries are just in the right time of the season to be harvested. It’s so lovely here in Springfield. We call our place springfield because the plants are always in bloom as if it were always spring. See the trees swaying through the wind and the birds chirping all around?
It’s just such a bright day and such a pleasant morning, I just can’t help smiling to myself. Ahh. Such a wonderful day it is to be alive - for I am Alexandra Sinclair and I am one of the few people who believes there is good in everything and that there is every reason to be thankful for every day that comes in our life.
I reckon people must think me silly that I’ve been smiling to myself like a crazy maniac, but what reason is there not to? It is a very special day after all.
