Lesson #4 (Old)

Chapter 4

Lesson Objectives(copied): · For students to gain an understanding of the purposes for Mandrakes, Devil’s Snare, and Bubotuber · For students to learn about historic ways of handling Herbology · To show students how to properly handle dangerous situations involving these three plants · For students to feel comfortable holding intellectual conversations surrounding the plants covered in today’s lesson Info On Mandrake: -Common in Europian countries -Shaped like parsnip -Have wrinkled roots -5cm to 40cm in height -Looks somewhat like tobacco plants -Grows well where men have been -Causes hallucinations, comas, and puts people into dreamlike states -Used in sleeping potions, love potions, and also in a potion to revive a petrified person -Uprooted mandrake can cause death with their screams -Will stop their death causing screams after they have killed one living animal of any kind -In 1954 a Potioneer Amaradus Spencer discovered a potion which would prevent the need for a death to cease a mandragora's screams. After you uproot the Mandrake with ear muffs and dragon hide gloves just put it in the potion. Note you can't replant the Mandrake after this. -When repotting use medium to heavy soil. The concentration of water should be equal to 3/4ths of the plant's approximate weight. -In an emergency: If a person slips into a coma from contact with a mandrake, wash the spot of contact and immediately send for a trained healer to administer a tandisu injection. Info On Devil's Snare: -Native to Scottish highlands and lowlands -Grows in dark and damp areas -Be careful of Devil's Snare in caves and places like them -Features that can be used to recognize it are swaying plant tendrils (very uncanny while the air is still) and the vivid green despite lack of light -In case of an emergency use a spell that makes heat or light (Incendio, Lumos Maxima are some examples) because Devil's Snare hates those things. Teacher also says you can play dead -People use Devil's Snare to guard objects, assassinate enemies, and distract others
