A Year at Hogwarts

written by Amanda

Sage Lily Potter had no idea that she was related to one of the most famous wizards in history. She thought that her parents had died in a car crash, like stern Ms. Johnson, the lady that ran the orphanage where Sage resided, had told her. As Sage gets a mysterious letter, the secrets from her past start to unfold in front of her like a giant blanket adorned with the map of her life, and she discovers that one of the girls at the orphanage is different. Just like her. THE BOOK IS NOT FINISHED YET

The Visit

Chapter 3
That night, Sage couldn't sleep well. Too many strange things had happened during the day, and she couldn't get them out of her mind. The rain pitter-pattering on the window usually rocked her to sleep, but not tonight. The deep blue curtain of night sky was embellished with stars and constellations, and Sage stood up to go admire the beautiful sight. The grey rain clouds were covering some of the sky, but to Sage's pleasure not all of it. She pulled out her notebook and a pencil from under her bed, and decided to copy some of the constellations that she was admiring. "That must be the Big Dipper." she said to herself, and drew it onto a piece of paper. Then she labelled it "Big Dipper".

After a couple of minutes, Sage's gaze was brought down to the front of the orphanage. The dark outline of an extremely tall and quite round figure was all that could be seen. Then an extremely loud knock resonated throughout the house, but Sage seemed to be the only one that could hear it. She was frightened. Who could be coming to visit in the middle of a rainy night? She crawled into her bed and hid under the covers. Shivers were running down her spine. Not out of being cold, but out of fear. Boom! Suddenly, Sage heard the very discomforting noise of the front door being knocked down. She climbed under her bed. "Um...Hello? Is anyone awake? I'm lookin' fer' a little girl named Sage Potter. I was told that this is where she lives." a loud but friendly and cozy voice had aroused from downstairs. "I'm here to bring her to Hogwarts." it continued. Hearing those words, Sage thought that it was probably safe to go see who was the unexpected visitor.

The stairs creaked as she slowly climbed down them. At the bottom, she found a huge man with a curly, messy brown beard. He was about the size of a very small giant. "Are you Sage?" he asked her. She nodded.

"You know Hogwarts?" she asked him.

"Yes, I do. I was sent here by the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, to come pick you up. I heard that a certain Ms. Johnson wouldn't let y'er attend." he said with a wink. "You know, last year, I brought y'er b-" he didn't finish his sentence. "Never you mind what I just said. I'll just leave this letter here explainin' everythin', and then we'll go wake up Rosalind. You go pack your bags. Y'ell be stayin' at Hogwarts for a whole year."

"Rosalind? Why do you want to wake her up?" Sage inquired.

"You didn't know? She's a witch too! I'm Hagrid, by the way. Rubeus Hagrid, but everyone calls me Hagrid. Now go get yourself ready. We don't want Ms. Johnson waking' up."

Sage obeyed, and went upstairs to pack. She took notebooks, some pencils and a pen, a water bottle, all her clothes, seeing as she really didn't have many, and the letter that the owl had brought earlier that day, plus the list of school supplies that was enclosed with it. Then she took off her pyjamas and slipped on some daywear, and put her pyjamas in the backpack that was holding the rest of the things that she was taking with her. Sage then tied up her reddish hair into a ponytail. She put on the backpack and hurried downstairs quietly, trying not to wake up the rest of the orphanage.

Hagrid was waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs. Then they walked to the room where Rosalind was sleeping, and Hagrid shook her awake. Rosalind opened her blue eyes and exclaimed "Hagrid!", recognising the tall man. Then they stepped outside once Rosalind was ready. Parked at the front of the orphanage was a strange sort of motorcycle. Hagrid told the girls to get in. "I'll explain everythin' on the way. Now hold on!" and with those words the motorcycle flew away into the night sky.
