Mira sat on the stool with the Sorting Hat on her head, waiting to be sorted. Her long, soft curls extended down her back. And she waited. And waited.
"Ravenclaw!" cried the Hat. A table in the center cheered loudly for her as she sat down. McGonagall moved through the names, M, N, O, P, and finally R.
"Russell, Benjamin." A tall, pale boy with curly, light brown hair walked up to the stool and sat. Mira watched him. The Sorting Hat took almost as long with him as it had with her!
"Hufflepuff!" cried the Hat. Cheers came from the table next to Mira's. As the boy walked to the table, Mira met his eyes. She blushed and looked away.
A Ravenclaw girl nudged her. "Do you like him?" she asked. Mira shook her head ferverently. "Mhmm..." The girl shrugged and looked at the staff table.
"Greetings, all students!" announced Headmistress McGonagall. "Let the feast begin!" She waved her arms and food popped up from nowhere. The students began to eat.
