>>>>>>> DONALD H. ACKERMAN <<<<<<<
Born: 1761 in Cullompton, Devon, England
Cannon Player 1780-1791
239 Appearances
Captain 1786-1791
2 International Caps
3 League Titles
Ackerman currently stands second in the Cannons table for most Snitch catches, behind only Felix Stockton. In a 10 year Cannon career, with 2 of his 3 League wins coming in a 5 year tenure as captain, Ackerman can only be described as a club legend. His immense reach saw him snatch Snitches even when behind in a chase, an ability which saw him win the Best Snatch award 3 years running in the 1780s. His 2 international caps came against teams with short Seekers, and he caught the Snitch in both.
>>>>>>> AMELIE BATICLE <<<<<<<
Born: 1860 in Uzès, France
Cannon Player 1887-1893
143 Appearances
39 International Caps
2 League Titles
Baticle was, according to most of her opponents, the fiercest competitor on the pitch. Off the pitch, Amelie was treated like a modern-day celebrity, followed by the media everywhere she went. In a 6 year spell Baticle won 2 League titles and was one of the most popular figures in the League amongst fans. Her 9 Snitch snatches in a row is still a French National Team record and when she caught her first Snitch aged 16, Baticle became the youngest player to catch a Snitch in French League history.
>>>>>>> GALVIN GUDGEON <<<<<<<
Born: 1978 in Glastonbury, Somerset, England
Cannon Player 1994-2008
286 Appearances
Captain 2006-2008
1 International Cap
Despite his terrible record, Gudgeon is the ultimate cult hero. Starting as Miranda Hooper’s understudy in 1994 he took over upon her retirement but failed to catch a single Snitch throughout his entire first season. His record haul for a season stands at 6 snatches, and this was enough to see him called up to the international game. His debut and single appearance was a spectacular failure, with Gudgeon fumbling the Snitch right in front of his own fans, and he was never called up again. For some reason, however, Gudgeon is a fans’ favourite with more chants chanted about him than possibly any other Cannon. In 2010 he admitted to missing the fans’ singing about him stating “There’s something special about hearing 10,000 people yelling ‘There’s only one Galvin Gudgeon, one Galvin Guuuudgeon!’ at the top of their voices”.
>>>>>>> MIRANDA A. HOOPER <<<<<<<
Born: 1962 in South Zeal, Devon, England
Cannon Player 1984-1996
248 Appearances
Captain 1992-1996
Team Coach 2013-present
Hooper was, by all accounts, a much greater success than her successor Gudgeon, but wasn’t half as popular. Whilst having a relatively good record compared to many contemporary Cannons’ Seekers, Hooper was never loved by the fans during her playing career but after suffering even worse in the subsequent years, she is recalled more fondly and even appreciated by many. Recently installed as the team coach, she is charged with turning the fortunes of the club around as they look to undo the jinx which seems to have hold of them.
>>>>>>> WOLFGANG JÄGGI <<<<<<<
Born: 1775 in Düsseldorf, Germany
Cannon Player 1798-1802
94 Appearances
7 International Caps
1 league Title
Jäggi is one of the great imports of the British game. Despite this he was loathed by his countrymen and women for saying he hated the country of his birth after being dropped after winning 5 of his 7 international matches before even joining the Cannons in 1798. His 4 years in England saw him win 1 League title in which he caught a record 100% of his Snitches. He never stayed in one place for long however, and he soon moved on to play in Spain, stating a need for a bit of sunshine. He was famed for his flamboyant behaviour and his golden goggles.
>>>>>>> ALFRED L. RIGG <<<<<<<
Born: 1807 in Wollongong, Australia
Cannon Player 1833-1841
177 Appearances
63 International Caps
3 League Titles
The Aussie was another of the club’s great overseas imports. Starting out for the Warriors of his hometown, Chudley payed big bucks for the lanky Australian and it paid off. After a couple of seasons settling in he won 3 League titles, catching more Snitches than any other Seeker in the British League in the 1830s. No Aussie has won more British League titles than Rigg and few have secured more Snitches for the nation than the 45 he achieved.
>>>>>>> FELIX E. STOCKTON <<<<<<<
Born: 1732 in Copplestone, Devon, England
Cannon Player 1753-1767
307 Appearances
34 International Caps
4 League Titles
Stockton was the first local talent uncovered by Elmer Grace when he founded the club in 1753. A 21 year-old Stockton debuted in their first League match and went on to catch more Snitches than any Cannon since and more has won more League titles than any other Cannons’ Seeker. His impressive performances in the late 1750s were key to the success of the early Cannons sides and saw him achieve 34 international caps. Always a true gentleman, Stockton was a popular hero adored by fans and in 2000, was voted by the fans as the third greatest player in the club’s history.
