Simply Sneakers

My mom always said I was strange, I thought she was right. So when things started to go wrong - and I mean REALLY wrong, my mom blamed me. Life had been hard enough after my dad had died, but I'm now eleven and my mom completely forgot about me. Then I got a letter. A real letter, a letter I'd never seen before, a letter I knew my mum thought was probably from an advertisement company. When I opened it, it was for me! It was a letter to Hogwarts. And trust me, no one has ever had as much fun as I did. Besides my ugly sneakers.

Sneak Sneak and Away

Chapter 5
The breakfast was pretty okay. I enjoyed the pancakes the most. Who knew being here was also so boring?
"Good morning, Wanda!" I turned around to see Mallory behind me. She laughed.
"Oh, hi Mallory, and Sam."
Sam did a silly face, then went back to stuffing his face. James was pretty funny.
"Why did the apple say 'Orange?' " he asked.
"I dunno, why?" I replied.
"Because it wasn't an orange!" He broke into laughter.
I smiled meekly, then glanced at my schedule.

Schedule:

Defence Against the Dark Arts
Herbology with the Slytherins
Astronomy
Potions with the Hufflepuffs
Transfiguartion
Charms
History of Magic
Flying Lessons on Saturdays

I wondered how I would put up with so many classes. Too bad I'm not smart! Looks like it was time for DADA already. I jumped up, hoping my books were already in the classroom. I knew I was going to fail big time. When we got in there, I sat down at a desk near the back. The teacher walked in. She had purple frizzy hair and black eyes. She seemed mostly friendly. And she had glasses that were on the end of her nose.
"Hello, class!" She put her hand to her ear.
"Good morning!" yelled one person.
"Oh, no no no. My name is Miss Priss. Now, everyone!" She waved her arms, hoping for something to happen.
I chanted along. I couldn't control myself, I mean, who could? Everyone chanted it.
"Good morning Miss Priss." we chanted.
"Good children. Now today we will be learning a very easy spell! It is called the Severing Charm. Now, wave your wands like this and say Diffindo!" she said, waving her wand.
Everyone attempted it. Only one person achieved it, Mallory. She smiled happily and looked up.
"Amazing! Now I hope you will all learn it, and if you don't, write an essay about it! After all, you are the Ravenclaws. The smartest house around?" she said it with a mockery tone in her voice.
Everyone grumbled, then she said brightly, "Alright! Open to page 3 and start studying the spells."
We all opened the book and started reading. I thought it was suspicious, but it might be expected. After all, what did I know? I'd never been to school. I fell into the rhythm of the book easily. It was amazing how much you could learn from books.
Miss Priss stopped messing with her hair and looked up brightly and smiled before saying, "Your assignment is to study one spell, must be a DADA spell! You must write a 100 word essay on it. Class dismissed!"
Mallory ran ahead to catch up with me, "What's the next class? I sorta lost my schedule."
"Herbology. With the Slytherins." I whispered.
Her mouth formed an O, then she ran ahead a little to talk with Sam. Something about Miss Priss was off, I couldn't tell what. Just something was.
My stride lengthened until I found the greenhouses. I looked at my schedule and noticed I was supposed to be at Greenhouse 3. I arrived late.
"I'm sorry I was late!" I turned bright pink. Plus it had started raining once I had reached the greenhouses.
Everyone turned towards me which made me even more embarrassed.
"Please try to be more on time," what appeared to be a friendly old man stood in front of me. He had grey hair with some brown streaked across it in some places. He had a friendly smile and kind brown eyes.
I nodded stiffly before taking a seat next to a Slytherin.
