Simply Sneakers
written by Theo Braith-Lupin (Teas)
My mom always said I was strange, I thought she was right. So when things started to go wrong - and I mean REALLY wrong, my mom blamed me. Life had been hard enough after my dad had died, but I'm now eleven and my mom completely forgot about me. Then I got a letter. A real letter, a letter I'd never seen before, a letter I knew my mum thought was probably from an advertisement company. When I opened it, it was for me! It was a letter to Hogwarts. And trust me, no one has ever had as much fun as I did. Besides my ugly sneakers.

Chapter 4
"So I just run through the wall?" I asked Draco.
"Yes, just run straight to the wall and you should get in." he pointed towards it.
I looked around for Muggles, then I sighed, and closed my eyes.
Run. I told myself.
I ran. I opened my eyes. The sensation was like being swallowed by a fish, except with sparkles. I saw Sam come through. We both giggled, loving the sensation. We saw the train.
"It's almost 11 am!" Sam told me.
We climbed onto the train and found an empty compartment. I pulled out a book and almost opened it, but another girl walked in.
"Um... Can I sit here? All the other compartments are full." she asked.
"Sure! My name's Sam. That's Wanda. What's your name?" Sam said.
"Hi Sam. Hi Wanda. My name's Mallory." she had long blonde hair, and sat down next to me.
"I see you like books. I'm so nervous! Mum hopes I get Ravenclaw. I kinda want Slytherin or Hufflepuff." said Mallory, twiddling her thumbs.
"I'm fine with any house I get." I said, starting to read my book.
Shrivelfig jumped onto Mallory's lap and rubbed underneath her chin. Mallory petted Shrivelfig, giggling a little. I pulled out the Tales of Beedle the Bard and started reading. So far it was really interesting.
"Hey Mudbloods." I looked up from my book to see a kid with black hair, glasses, and brown eyes.
"Wha-?" I asked.
"Mudblood. Filthy Muggles making our wizarding community filth." the boy said.
"For your information, I'm George Weasly's daughter." I told him.
"Oh, the blood traitor. That's even worse than a Mudblood." I turned red.
He then grabbed my glasses and smashed them on the floor of the train. Now I can't see squat without my glasses, so I was groping around for them. The boy went off laughing. Mallory handed me my glasses.
"Let's go see if there are any professors on the train." She offered.
I accepted, and grabbed her hand. She glanced around and saw somebody. They just looked like a fuzzball to me.
"Hi, Dad! Can you fix Wanda's glasses?" asked Mallory.
The fuzzball nodded and waved his wand. I didn't hear him say anything though.
"Sorry, not the best at magic, Mallory." the fuzzball professor said.
Mallory seemed to hug the fuzzball, but then she handed my glasses back.
"This is Dad, Neville Longbottom." Mallory said proudly.
"Then who's your mom?" I asked, squinting a little.
"Luna Lovegood. Well, she's now Luna Longbottom." said Mallory.
"Let's go back to the compartment." I told Mallory. She agreed.
Sam was sitting down in his robes, "You guys better get into your robes now, we're going to get to Hogwarts soon."
Me and Mallory changed into our robes. I looked in the mirror. I personally thought the black looked beautiful with my ginger hair and freckles. Mallory also looked really nice. Her blonde hair really set it off. Sam looked like a mini Draco almost. Except for the hair. I opened up the Tales of Beedle the Bard again. As I got to the Wishing Fountain the train stopped. I put it back in my bag. My bag had only two books. My trunk was... somewhere. Sam told me it got sent into the castle. I asked him about the castle but he just laughed. When I stared out the window I saw a beautiful castle, nothing like a 'Cinderella' castle. It had a good mix of light and dark. I saw a a teacher hovering over everyone.
"First years here, first years over here!" I'm sure it was a teacher.
Mallory and Sam and several other people were going over there, so I ran to catch up. I nearly tripped over my robes. Mostly because I'm a short person. The teacher was telling everyone to get into groups.
"You with you and you." She pointed at me, Sam, and Mallory so we got into a boat.
We moved it towards the castle which I figured was Hogwarts. I think Sam forgot he was paddling and overturned the boat. Either that or it was me. We fell into the water and had to swim to shore. Great way to start a new school, huh? The teacher came over and yelled at us for a whole two minutes, then she took us with her to meet the headmistress for the Sorting. I was so scared, yet so excited. Did Mum ever know Dad was a wizard? Oh, if she did that would be amazing! Also why did Dad's last name change? Maybe to make suspicion go away. I thought.
"Alright students! Welcome to Hogwarts we are about to go in. In the Great Hall you will be sorted into the four houses-" Blah, blah, blah. She talked for about five minutes before clapping her hands. The doors opened and everyone went in. The hat spoke in rhyme, I didn't listen. Then she listed everyone off the list. We went in alphabetical order. Hooray.
"Adams, Wanda." she called.
I went up, my knees shaking. I sat down hesitantly. Then I couldn't see anything at all. I heard a voice. I thought it was talking to the whole hall. I knew there were students staring at me. And not just first years. My sneakers would probably show me off.
"Ah, a very kind, brave, and sly person you are. Also very loyal..." the hat seemed to be thinking.
"RAVENCLAW!" it yelled, my ears hurt after hearing that.
I saw a blue table with people cheering at it. That must be the Ravenclaw table I told myself. And the Sorting Ceremony went on.
"Longbottom, Mallory!" she called.
Mallory went up, it only took the Sorting Hat a millisecond before saying, "RAVENCLAW!" I cheered along with the other Ravenclaws.
"Malfoy, Sam." she read the name with distaste.
The hat waited, then it said, "RAVENCLAW!" Me and Mallory cheered the loudest.
The headmistress gave a short speech, then yelled, "Higgldy-Piggldy, let the feast begin!"
The food appeared on the table, I gasped. It was amazing! I saw so much food. My mother's years of neglect left me. Food! Real food! Not french fries! I grabbed as much as I could. Some of the pork, some of the ham, some pumpkin juice, and plenty of dumpling and sugar buns. I ate it all, I was still hungry. Then the person sitting next to me, he had black hair and green eyes.
"Hi! I'm James. I'm a Prefect." he said, grinning at me.
"Um, I'm Wanda. That's Sam, and that's Mallory." I said.
"Oh, cool. So, who's your wizarding parent? Or are you Muggleborn?" he asked.
"My wizarding parent? My dad was George Weasly and I think my mum's a muggle." I told him, unsure of the weird feeling inside.
"You're my cousin!" shouted James. I turned extremely red.
"What?" I asked.
"See, Harry Potter (My dad. He's crazy) married Ginny Weasly, my mum. Mum had six brother. George and Fred, the twins. Percy (Let's not talk about him...), Bill, Charlie, and Ron." he explained.
"Do I have other cousins?" I asked.
"Oh yeah! My sister Lilly, she's in Gryffindor. Albus is in Slytherin. Lucky kid. Mum's expecting another kid. Oh yeah, Charlie has a kid. She's part veela. Real cute kid she is. Only seven though. Her name's Molly after Grandmother." he seemed excited to see me.
Sam and Mallory started telling me about how slow it had seemed when they were being sorted. I had a sort of empty feeling in me, almost as if I was meant in another house. But I guess the Sorting Hat's word is law. And now to see the Common Room and meet other Ravenclaws! What a good life it is.
