Simply Sneakers
written by Theo Braith-Lupin (Teas)
My mom always said I was strange, I thought she was right. So when things started to go wrong - and I mean REALLY wrong, my mom blamed me. Life had been hard enough after my dad had died, but I'm now eleven and my mom completely forgot about me. Then I got a letter. A real letter, a letter I'd never seen before, a letter I knew my mum thought was probably from an advertisement company. When I opened it, it was for me! It was a letter to Hogwarts. And trust me, no one has ever had as much fun as I did. Besides my ugly sneakers.

Chapter 3
"I need a wand, so does he." I pointed to Sam.
The man laughed, "So I'm guessing it's your first year?"
"Yes." both me and Sam said, then we burst into laughter.
"The wand chooses the wizard. Now who wants to go first?" he asked, taking down a wand box.
"Wanda can go first since she has 'wand' in her name." Sam said, pushing me forward.
I shrugged it off, "Alright."
He handed me a wand, "9 and a fourth inches, springy, unicorn hair core, willow wood."
I took the wand and waved it gingerly, it shot a red light and knocked down several wand boxes.
"Nope, too weak." He took the wand and gave me another one. "11 and a quarter inches, somewhat springy, Veela hair core and pear wood."
I waved it, and a green firework shot out of it. The wandmaker nodded and told me that was my wand. I stared at it, it did feel right.
"The wand picks the wizard." he told Sam.
Draco and his wife named Lavender were watching with pride, smiling at the fact that their son was getting his first wand.
Lavender came over and hugged me, then whispered in my ear, "I'm so happy that you can be a sibling to Sam. He'll need watching over." I nodded and hugged her back.
It was wonderful to not be with my horrible mother. And to be going to a school! Then I remembered something.
"His name wasn't Brian! His name was George! George Weasly!" Sam, Draco, Lavender, and the wandmaker stared at me.
"George was your dad?" asked Sam, his face covered in excitement.
"I dunno. Why does it matter anyways?" I asked, wrinkling my nose, my freckles are probably visible in this light I thought.
"It explains the ginger hair." replied Draco.
I made them tell me about George Weasly, and I must say I was pretty surprised.
"So I'm a Halfblood?" I asked.
"Yes. And it's really a shame George died. He ran an amazing shop." said Draco.
I danced over to hug Sam. Sam's wand shot up a firework, and the wandmaker told them it would be forty galleons. So they told me about wizard money. It was amazing! I was half witch and I didn't even know it until now! But now I have this new family, and Mum? I don't need her. She'll probably forget I was even her daughter. Next we went to get robes, after all, we had our wands and our books. The people working in the shop measured me and gave me my robes, they were lovely! And my hat was also beautiful. They charged Draco and Lavender galleons, and then we went on to get the rest of the things. I didn't notice the broomsticks, but Sam did.
"Wanda, look! Aren't they beautiful?" his mouth seemed to water, I giggled.
"Oh, Sam. If you're interesting in brooms you'll need to wait a year!" I showed him the list.
"Wanda's right, Sam. But maybe if you can catch something after someone stirs up trouble..." Draco laughed and hugged his son.
We got the cauldron and everything else on the list. Then Draco showed me around Gringotts, he got several dirty looks from the goblins. In turn he asked me about Mum. I explained everything, he laughed pretty hard.
"I didn't write an acceptance letter!" I stopped laughing with him.
"Don't worry, got it covered." Draco left me on the steps of Gringotts, so I looked through my bag. I grabbed A History of Magic and started to read it through. Then Sam came over without his mum and whispered in my ear about getting a pet. My eyes looked up from the book and nodded, then Sam helped me put A History of Magic back into my bag.
"C'mon, Wanda!" he grabbed my hand and ran through the crowd with me behind him.
The inside of the pet shop was beautiful, but I had my eyes on a rat and a cat. Not really any of the owls. Sam picked up one of the red owls and showed it to me.
"I could call this one Wanda." I laughed with him.
I noticed a black cat with dark green eyes and a purple tip on the tail. I picked up the cat and turned around to the pet shop person.
"I would like this one." I told her.
She nodded and put out her hand, Sam jumped in and put in fifteen galleons. She raised her eyebrow, so he said he was also getting this owl. She nodded and we went out.
"What'll you call your cat?" he asked me.
"Oh, I dunno. What's a magical herb?" I asked him, hugging my new cat.
"It's a girl." Sam told me.
I grabbed my book and looked through it for a bit before saying, "Shrivelfig. Her name is Shrivelfig. A one hundred percent good witchy cat for me!" we both laughed as Draco and Lavender came towards us.
"Ah, I see you got some pets. What are their names?"
"Wanda is my owl's name, even though it's a boy." said Sam.
"My cat's name is Shrivelfig. She's a one hundred percent witchy cat!" I told them.
They said that we should go to a Muggle restaurant and get some food. Me and Sam agreed, after all, we were hungry. We walked through the Leaky Cauldron again, Draco told me that he closes up the Leaky Cauldron sometimes. He said witches and wizards could apparate out, so I asked him what apparating is. Draco and Sam walked a bit ahead, so Lavender went over to me and pulled out a book.
"The Tales of Beedle the Bard?" I asked her, accepting the book.
"It's full of wizarding... fairy tales I guess you could call them. Thought you might enjoy it." she whispered.
I smiled and put it in my bag, which was now fairly full. Shrivelfig was also in my bag, but she was only a kitten so it was okay. Draco lead us into one of my favorite restaurants. It was called Highlander, a British Pub. We had some food and Draco told me he'd sent the acceptance letter. I felt like I was being accepted into a whole new family and a new school. Acceptance for me but not my sneakers.
