Lacy woke with a start. The air was cold and the light was dim. Someone was carrying her over their shoulder. Vaguely she tried to recollect what had happened. The back of her head ached and it took her a moment to remember the fight. She went tense as she realized where she was; the Decimators’ tunnel system. That had to mean it was a Decimator carrying her. She squirmed in their hold trying to get free.
“She’s awake!” the man that was carrying her chuckled. Lacy pounded her fist on his back and thrashed her feet.
“Let me go!” she screamed. He laughed again.
“She sounds like a howler monkey!” a voice said from ahead of them. Lacy screamed again in rage and tried to use her power. There was a metal cuff on her wrist.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” she growled. “Put me down!” she continued to struggled. Suddenly the air got even colder and they walked into an area that was alit with light. The man swung her forward and onto her feet. Lacy took this as a chance to try and run, but he quickly grabbed her arm to keep her from doing so. He spun her around to look at the rest of the room. In front of her there was the woman that had fought D and another Decimator that had been with her. They both stepped to the side to reveal another man. He had dark eyes and brown hair.
“Who is your mentor?” the man asked watching her curiously. Lacy held her head high.
“Kydlin,” she replied proud of her mentor. He smiled and it made a shiver run through Lacy. Suddenly she wasn’t so confident.
“And you found her with a patrol?” he looked over at the woman. She nodded in confirmation.
“Yes Kane. We believe they found her and were trying to get her back to camp,” she explained.
“Good. Very good,” he muttered his dark eyes glinting. Lacy gave a snort of laugher.
“What’s so good about that? You injured some of your precious Decimators while capturing me! Why not just let me go? What’s the point of catching me? It’s not like I’m going to join your army or be helpful in any kind of way,” she said in a mocking tone. Kane raised his eyebrows.
“Is that what you think?” he asked looking at her with amusement. “Don’t think I didn’t find Hunter and Kydlin. I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know they escaped, but keep in mind I fully plan on repaying them for their disturbance. I’ve already caught the boy. I think his name is Kyle. My men are already working on catching your other friend,” he said. Lacy glared at him.
“What’s the point though? Why us three? Why go through the struggle of catching us?” she asked trying to keep from looking alarmed. Kane smiled approvingly at her questions.
“It’s all a matter of opportunity. You three were part of Hunter’s mission of coming here and finding out what we were up to. I don’t appreciate people poking their noses into my privet business I’ll let you know. Kyle was an easy capture. Hunter has the blame for that. After all if he hadn’t brought you three, you would all be safe back at your camp right now. You, on the other hand, were taken from a patrol. To Hunter that is a slap in the face. It’s my way of informing him that I can take whatever I want, whenever I want, and he can’t stop me. Taking you three is proving a point that soon the Protectors will fall and I will rule this city. On top of that you will benefit my plan greatly, but that will be explained later,” he said his smile never leaving his face. Lacy looked at him in disgust. Another Decimator entered the room. It was a short man with blonde hair.
“Sorry to interrupt sir, but I just got news that the other girl has been found. She is on her way here now,” the man said. Kane nodded, but the man continued. “She was found with your youngest son. As ordered, he is being brought here as well.” he avoided Kane’s eyes. Kane looked over to the woman who had fought D and something passed in between them.
“Rebel?” he asked. The short man nodded. “It’s been a while since he disappeared. Go make sure they don’t ruff him up to much Eve,” he ordered the woman. She nodded and disappeared down one of the tunnels. Kane turned back toward the man. “You’re dismissed,” he said. Lacy watched with interest. She wondered who Rebel was and what he was doing with Tohoak.
“Now all three of you have been caught and Hunter knows I hold the power. It will be interesting to see what he’ll do next.” Kane turned to leave. “Confine her with the boy. I’m going to go speak to my son,”
