Chapter 2: Appearances

Chapter 2
First we will discuss the appearance of the Merpeople, as they can vary greatly depending on region. The Selkies of the Black Lake at Hogwarts have long green hair; piercing yellow eyes, greyish skin and rather poorly kempt teeth, the majority broken. The Selkies are freshwater and live in colder regions however, and it is understood that the warmer the waters the Merpeople reside in, the more pleasing they are on the eye. In fact the first recorded Merpeople in Greece were known as Sirens, and played a large role in the muggle stories of Mermaids we see today.

Despite their half human, half fish appearance, Merpeople are not half breeds and are a species all their own. They were not created through experimental breeding. They average at 7ft in height from the head to the tip of the tail.
