A little history about the four houses. If you don't know what house to join, this book should help! I try not to be biased, but I apologize in advance.

Gryffindor
Chapter 2
Basic: Gryffindor values courage, bravery and determination. Some famous people to come out of this house are Harry Potter, Professor McGonagall, and Albus Dumbledore. The ghost is Nearly Headless Nick.
Colors: Red and Gold
Animal: Lion
Myths: Most people that haven't read the Harry Potter series, or don't know a lot about it think that Gryffindor is the only good house or the best house. This is not true! There are good reasons to join all of the houses, and although Gryffindor is the most common, with 66 thousand member on Hogwarts is Here compared to Hufflepuff's 49 thousand, you should choose the house you feel called to.
Common Room: In a tower, behind the painting of the Fat Lady.
Reasons to join: Name recognition. I know I said that all houses are equal, but to non-Harry Potter fans, they will understand when you say the word 'Gryffindor'!
Reasons not to join: The chance to be different, and make another house famous!
