Charms Essay #1

Chapter 2
Part One - Introduction:

• When did you know you had magical talent?
It was sometime after my twelfth birthday. I was reading indoors (it was storming outside), and you know, it's silly really, but when I reached for the book I intended to read on my shelf, it just kind of...wiggled off the shelf and flew into my hand. I didn't even have a wand yet, and I certainly hadn't said anything like 'Accio Book!' It was more like the book suddenly had a mind of its own. Needless to say, I got my very first Hogwarts letter a couple of days later. And yes, it did cross my mind that it was something about the book, and I had no magical talent whatsoever, but when the very same thing happened with several other books...

• What interests you about Charms?
Everything really, I mean, what is there not to like? I suppose it has something to do with the preciseness. How, if not with just the right amount of concentrated effort, a decisive thought process, and being quite articulate, the spell will otherwise go awry or not work altogether. I appreciate things that take common sense. (Which I suppose must be why Divintation has always bothered me)

• What would you like to learn in the class?
The simple spells. Of course I want to learn the more complicated ones eventually, but honestly I feel quite enthusiastic about the simplest ones, like 'Lumos,' or 'Accio Book!' So straightforward, but still so easy to botch, and once you've mastered one, you won't even have to hardly think before you're using these charms to your everyday advantage.

• Are you interested in spell casting theory (how it is done)?
Very much so!

• Would you like to learn just spells that are from official sources (such as the books, movies, games, etc.) or would you like to learn some spells that were not seen in the official sources?
I think I'd prefer to learn spells that are from official sources.

• What about Charms excites you?
The precision, the artfulness! That knowledge that comes when you have really truly perfected a spell, and the wand begins to feel more like an appendage and less like an awkward stick hanging from your hand.

Part Two - Journal Plan:

• a traditional journal entry,
• a list of thoughts and observations,
• as a role-playing exercise (where you explain what you do as if writing a story),
• and other options not on the list.

After much thought, I think I'd prefer to do a traditional journal entry. Almost like I'm noting down in my diary the activities I endorsed in that very day.

Thank you very much for this chance to further my limited understanding of charms Professor, I look forward to learning from you this term.
