The Common Room Part 2
Chapter 4
It was dark and quiet, the night time. Nikki couldn’t sleep, she lay awake in her bed staring up at the bottom of where Dakota was sleeping. Dakota was snoring which annoyed Nikki, she was clearly missing Rain. She sat up and bumped her head on Dakota’s bed, “Ouch..” She rubbed her head. She needed to get out of the cold dorm, there was a fireplace in the common room so she came there to see a tall boy.
The boy held a note and crumpled it between his hands and then let it burn in the fire. Nikki sat down on a leather couch and turned to the boy, “What was that..?” She asked in a quiet voice. The boy did not realize there was another Slytherin in the room and looked down at the petite girl, he smiled softly, “Just a letter from my father" There had been sadness as his English accent kissed his Russian one ever so lightly when he spoke again. "I still love him." Nikki understood him, “Yeah,” She stared up at the ceiling then continued, “My bro- I m-mean, uhm, yeah! Something like you said.” She forced a smile. He caught how she hesitated at first and shook his head lightly also allowing his hair to change from its normal slightly wavy jet black to a more strawberry red as his voice held a much softer tone than what it once did before. “No tell me about your brother… is he a major arse like my father?” Nikki said in an airy voice, “Well.. I’m not exactly sure what happened…” "Tell me about your brother, I promise I won't be judgmental." “Well my sister and I weren't exactly close as children and my brother brought us together whenever we fought..” Nikki glanced side to side as she spoke. "Ahh, ok. But all siblings fight.." He would look at her and would smile softly as he then chuckled before speaking. "I come from a large family and we have three sets of twins and they all fight, but I was the one usually having them make up." “Well I just told you the beginning, then something happened” Nikki’s eyes welled up threatening the barrier to break. He then wrapped his arm around her as he saw the tears start to form, and gently wiped them away with his thumb while attempting to put the pieces of her story together. "He didn't do what I think he did, has he?" Rain, in the hallway, was trying to persuade the house ghost to open the Slytherin Common Room's door for her. "Oh, but come on, now," she spoke in a voice attempting to sound like a melody, or at least charming to some sort. "My sister's in there!" The ghost just turned her down again. "Yes, but do you know the password?" *Rain, obviously fed up with this soul, cried, "YEAH, IT'S PUREBLOOD! NOW STEP ASIDE SISTA!!!" Maybe the ghost finally caved in because the door opened without a creak or slam. "NIKKI" Rain yelled "I LEFT MY HAIRBRUSH IN YOUR-" Rain stopped as she looked at her sister. Tears streaming down her face, she looked helpless, only one thing could make her feel this way, besides maybe worrying about Rain herself. Taking her sister in her arms, she dashed them both out of the room. Once she made sure her sister was safely out of the room, she looked at Nate with a glare that no Hufflepuff could've possessed. "YOU! Y-Y-YOU DID THIS!" *She screamed while pointing at Nate and ran out of the door with her sister in her arms.
The boy heard the door open to their Common Room and watched what had happened. He truly was astonished by the speed in which he assumed was Nikki's sister dashed in and out of the room with Nikki in hand. "Tsk, siblings." He stood up and walked to the door and watched for where Nikki and Rain went. “You badgers are so quick to get angry, I thought those lions had it bad.” “EXCUSE ME?!" Rain snapped her whole body around to face the boy. "I-" She stopped, mid-sentence, realizing what she had done and said was...well, not right. "Honestly, I was just trying to protect my sister. She's my sister, let alone my twin sister, my first and true best friend." Rain took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "What you said was...hurtful." Rain bit her lip. She forced the next words out of her "See, our brother...well, he left and became," trembling and hurt, she couldn't manage her last word. Tears streaking down her face, she tried to look Nate in the eye, but failed, looking at, instead, Nikki, which made her cry even more. Nikki squeezed Rain tight, “Rain, I’m fine.” It was a lie, she tried to hold in tears but they kept gliding down her cheeks as she tried to smile for her sister. "No, Nikki, I know for a fact that you're not." Rain sighed and folded her arms, still looking at the older boy straight in the eye. "Please, just...sit over there." She motioned her hand toward a seat in the common room at the front. The boy looked at Rain as his eyes turned to an amber brown as he listened to what she had to say. His eyes closed for a brief moment and he shook his head lightly, but whilst doing so his red hair became blacker than the darkest night revealing the slight waves and curl to his hair. He soon heard Nikki's voice as she had spoken in regards to what her sister had said and soon heard the sisters go back and forth and would merely wait for the right moment. "Don't worry about it, I'm the eldest of twelve and she reminds me of one of my little sisters. I always hated seeing them cry. Besides, we Slytherin look out for each other here." “No, for a matter of fact I will not sit over there. I don’t want to, quit bossing me around! I should be a part of this conversation too, I was the one who mentioned James!” Rain ignored Nikki’s comment sighing, “I-no,” She tried to begin talking to the boy, “I know you mean well but, it’s just this,” She hesitated, “particular subject..” Rain looked over at the stubborn Nikki worriedly. “Goddammit Rain! Stop ignoring me! James is my brothertoo, I don’t want to be dependent on you, I want to be able to stand up for myself, I don’t care if you are a few minutes older than me. I’m not weak! Stop treating me like a small child!” Her eyes welled up with anger as she stomped away to her dorm not caring how much noise she was making for the others sleeping. The boy was listening to Nikki and her sister, Rain, he couldn't help but slide his hands into his pockets as he wanted to say something but was trying to figure how to word it properly. In the end he settled on saying nothing but quickly changed his mind. "She has a point. Besides, how can she better herself if you continue to try and baby her? Just think about it." He would watch as Nikki went back to the dorm and he called out after her as he tried to catch up to her. "Nikki, Nikki ostanovka," he found his Russian slipping out and quickly translated by speaking again. "Nikki stop." Nikki was careless as of to what the boy was saying and continued to her room slamming the door. It was oblivious to the deep sleepers in her room. Knowing full well he wasn't allowed in the girls dormitory he disregarded this rule anyway. With a heavy sigh he heard the sound of light sniffling and muffled cries. He softly placed his hand upon the door, inhaling softly through his nose before he spoke as he gave a light knock upon the door. “Open the door please…” Nikki opened the door with her eyes slightly red and puffy she half smiled, “You kind of remind me of my brother.. When he was sane of course..” Seeing the door open a small smile came to his face but after hearing Nikki speak he would lower his head lightly before looking back up towards the girl. With a small sigh he would wipe her remaining tears away and nodded. "if you wish, I can never take the place of your family but I- I could help by being your friend. If you ever need help, comfort or just need to talk I'll be here for you."
